I’d rather have Henson and Snell for Gortat and a 2nd. Figure out the Mahinmi thing later.

Nat, you are underestimating the seriousness of our tax situation and the implications it has starting in 2019/20.
Ted can and will pay the Lux tax if we are over by 8-10M, but we simply CANNOT be in the repeater tax.
If we get out of the tax this year and therefore next year, then we get a 4 year run with this group (Including this year) before being in repeater territory. After that, Beal and Otto would have expired and we would have decided by then what direction to go (Probably rebuild).
I think Marcin Gortat is on the trading block. He's still an integral part of what helps this team but he's getting less and less minutes.NatP4 wrote:FAH1223 wrote:

Makes perfect sense.80sballboy wrote:Woj is already reporting Monroe is gathering momentum to NOP.

Kinda funny, we traded 2 first round picks and 64 million for our 3 frontcourt guys when we could have Mirotic and Monroe for just one 1st and MLE money

I honestly hate trying to seem like a know it all and dumb down the process of being a GM. But I truly think its quite simple in this regard.
1) Get the star player / Face of Franchise: This is one AS/All-NBA player (Wall for us).
2) Get compliment star(s): Our Beal and Otto.
The first two steps are obviously the hardest, but really the most important.
Strategic tanking (SAS with Duncan), taking on bad contracts for picks (Cavs with Kyrie - Baron Davis trade), and trading existing AS caliber players to contenders (Blake, Kyrie, Bledsoe, etc.)
How many teams are at that point? I got about 14 ... Celtics, Raptors, Cavs, Wizards, Bucks, 76ers, Pistons(Blake), Warriors, Rockets, Spurs, T-Wolves, Thunder, Blazers, Pelicans
So it isnt THAT hard as almost half the league is there or close to it.
The 3rd step is how to surround those 2-3 players with a winning team, and in the NBA, it seems simple.
3) Keep / Obtain a top 40 pick every year, and dont trade your 1st in back to back years
4) Use about 20% of the cap (About 20M with one being 10-13M from cap space, and the other 8-9 from MLE) for Two players with at least one a versatile starter on the back end of Prime (28/29 y/o). I.E. Iggy, Eric Gordon, Ingles, Korver, Roberson, Gay, Collison, etc.
You now have 2-3 AS caliber players (or thereabout), 2-3 players on rookie deals, and 2 FA's in their prime who are real pros.
5) SO you have about 5-6 spots you need to fill. 1 or 2 will be late 2nds or UDFA that are G-League/depth players you are hoping contribute, but the other 4 should all be Vets looking to compete or buy outs.
I.E. Jerebko, Pachulia, Tyreke, West, Casspit, Mike Scott, Willie Reed, James Johnson, Dedmon, Nene, LRMAM, etc.
I feel like we see it every year, but teams make it much harder than it should be.
I don't like it!80sballboy wrote:Yeah, Michael Lee says Wiz are interested in Nelson. Better than Frazier? He's a better shooter but he's really slowed down at 35.
