Re: Let's Talk About Mario
This was exactly the same situation that the Pacers had with Solo Hill a couple of years ago. FO declined his last year rookie option, midseason he got an opportunity and earned his rotation spot, then he had an excellent playoffs. End result, he got a 4/$48m offer from NO that was impossible for the Pacers to match. The silver lining, such as it is, is that poor Solo is universally considered overpaid now.
Oddly, that happened under coach Vogel too.

Solomon Hill is probably a good comparison for Mario too.

I wouldn't say it's exactly the same. You got to see what Hill looked like playing 29 mpg in 82 games at 24 years old before declining him... he just got overpaid based on 7 playoff games the following year when a lot of teams were stupidly overspending. We declined Mario based on mostly 15 mpg and DNPs at 21 yrs old. Maybe the end result will be the same, but that remains to be seen at this point.

There's no way Hezonja gets paid more in Europe than here in the NBA. TOP European salaries are around 3-4 million dollars annually. And only 2 or 3 guys there get paid that kind of cash.
Yeah. If it comes down to money, he will stay in the NBA. Given the way his first few seasons have played out, I wouldn't be surprised if he was more than a little homesick though. It's been a long time since I've seen anything out of Hezonja that even resembles excitement. He shows a bit of frustration after he is whistled on a bad foul call, but he doesn't celebrate his great plays. He just champs his mouthpiece. Perhaps it is maturity or perhaps he is just waiting to get out of this situation. I don't know.
I'd love if we could find a way to keep him as he has clearly turned a corner.
His not cheerying comes from the fact he is too emotionaly unstabile, or was. His emotions get the better of him so he kills him self inside that he s not perfect n he missed n what ll vogel think n... than he would screw up in other instances. So he is focused n this way he checks his emotions and focuses on just the next play. So he can try new things and learn, stop doubting him self if he screwes up a play. Seams to work for him. He knows only after he has things locked in can he let emotions loose a bit. He s not there yet. He s too young. But you know inside of him things are cooking at times.

Just when he's starting to stride, we won't be able to keep him. Might as well explore trade options instead of getting nothing.

Re: Let's Talk About Mario
Wouldn't you have a better chance at re-signing Mario if you traded him now? They his acquiring team would be locked in to the 4th year rookie deal offer whereas you guys could offer any cap room you have (if any) or the full MLE.
Not that it makes up for not just picking up his 4th year guarantee. But if he likes it in Orlando and would be open to heading back but a full MLE from elsewhere is too much money to pass up - at least trading him now would even that playing field in any bidding situation.

1) will there be a team that will trade anything of value for him given that there is a cap to what you can sign him in the offseason?
2) i think there is a rule about players going back to their former team. Like cant be back in one year or something

He was hurt last season and this makes it so obvious. I really hope we can resign him, if we don't what a messy situation

Sadly, it's already messy. It officially became messy once the Magic renounced their rights and he started playing well.

Well, Hezonja says he's been injured for a good period last season. In that case, declining his option is sadly even worse since they knew he's been injured

Re: Let's Talk About Mario
he had no lift in his legs last year, i thought he just gained lot of weight and got slower because of it or that his athletics look medicore in nba.
If he can keep improving his ballhandling he will be really good player.

No matter how I feel about Mario. It's clear that he is gone.
Why would he want to stay here, he 'll look at opportunity to get more PT with another team

Why should he leave now? He's getting playing time and playing much better, not to mention people around the organization believe in him now!
I remember the guy from OrlandoMagicdaily.com said Mario would be out the league at the end of the season if he doesn't play well! I stopped listening to him after that because I guess I was probably the only few fans hyping him up and remained confident in him!
We all know Mario loves basketball and he just needed to find his rhythm and build off that. How can anyone root against him is beyond me!
He still needs to improve his defense and ball handling more because Vogel can't keep him him defensively at the four.

It was reported that no one wanted to trade for Hezonja earlier in the season!
If the reports are true, why go to another team now knowing no one was interested in him?
The grass isn't always greener on the other side, ask Dwight!

I think if we give him minutes past the allstar, don't draft direction competition, and give him guarantees we have a chance..
