Another 40 point game for Mitchell. Of course, high volume shooting anyone can do this blah blah blah

I'm wondering how many 40+ games Iverson and Mj had.

Iverson had 5, including a 50 point game. Jordan had 7.

But hey, again, any rookie can do that. You know, the fact it's only happened 4 times in nearly 40 years is irrelevant to the fact that any rookie could do this.

Ntilikina's offensive numbers for the season are not good at all but he looked good tonight. Think he's a guy that'll take some time but will be a really nice player when he does put it all together.

About his average during this stretch; since being 'snubbed' 6 games ago he's averaging 20.3 points per game while shooting 67% overall, with 7.5 assists and 6.7 rebounds. Most encouraging is that he's only committing 2.2 turnovers and also making 67% of his free throws (68 TS%).

Yet people seem to have him losing ground in the ROTY race.

I don't think it's changing anyone's opinions of the race. Whether fans preferred Simmons or Mitchell, they're both playing well enough to validate why they preferred them before.

Mitchell was superb today so you can't fault people who think he's catching up to/ahead of Simmons.

I'd say 55% to 45% Simmons to Mitchell for roty. Mainly because Simmons is so good on defense. However, if donovan finishes 21 or 22/4/4 and the Jazz sneak into the playoffs, I'd consider Donovan the favorite.

Personally I think Simmons is the better all-round player but Mitchell is obviously the better scorer, and you can say what you want about stats but that's the most important one to most people. It wouldn't worry me if Simmons didn't win it at the expense of Mitchell, a. because Mitchell is a beast, and b. it will have no effect on Simmons' long-term trajectory anyway. Its just an individual award, not the most important thing, which is an NBA title.

Simmons isnt even tenchincally a rookie, which makes what mitchell is doing way more impressive. Mitchell didnt get a year of learning nba traning on the sidelines like simmons. Came straight rom college dominating, and the jazz are making a run right now

The "Simmons is not a rookie" argument has been done to death in these threads but I agree that Mitchell has been phenomenal. Arguably he is more impressive than Simmons just in terms of Simmons abilities seem God-given; 6'10" 21 year olds should not be able to do what Simmons can do and he's probably a generational talent. Mitchell is beasting while being an average size etc for a player of his position but still being able to dominate against players who are more physically mature and a lot more experienced than him. So yeah I can understand people thinking Mitchell is more impressive in terms of doing more with less compared to Simmons. If that wins Mitchell ROTY I think that's fair enough if you ask me.

I don't think defence matters at all in this discussion. The ROTY-award is determined by how media personalities vote. When their teams face Philly, they see Embiid as the main threat. When they face Utah, it is all about stopping Mitchell. For this reason I can see a very viable path for Mitchell to get the award.

Mitchell also didn't have a year of not playing basketball at all.

I'm really high on him; he just needs better help next to him to progress his development offensively. Doncic or Young in the draft would do the trick.
