I kind of like Gordon. Honestly don't think he's a great fit though, paired with Lauri.
But, it brings me to a point.....
We've got the ability to choose between signing a guy like Gordon, Capela, Hood, Jabari, or whoever.....And yes, I think we could probably get any of them. I don't think its 100% that their teams are guaranteed to match a huge deal.
Or.....
We've got the ability to use that same cap space on accumulating assets thru buying bad contracts. Listening to Woj' podcast today, he mentioned how good of a spot teams that are rebuilding are in. There's not many and there's plenty of teams desperately trying to unload bad deals, in time for FA next year. He mentioned that some GM's use 14 million as a rule of thumb for the value of a 1st round pick, by the way.
So, there's 2 different ways to use your cap, if you use it now. And you SHOULD use it. There's merit to going either direction here.....
If you draft a wing,(Porter or Doncic) then sign Capela.....Come on, that's a pretty exciting team. Say you draft one of Ayton, Bagley, Bamba, or JJJ. Then you sign Gordon, Jabari, or Hood. Still, a pretty interesting and fun team to watch....
But, is it better than taking stock of what you've already got......And adding more assets to a growing pile of them? Using your pick, then adding more picks and not capping yourself out monetarily, too early.... With the added benefit of drafting higher again for another year or two, as well.
I can see both sides here. But, I'm taking the side of adding bad money. Accumulating assets can put you in an enviable spot. Adding one nice young player, at this exact stage, would be fun.....But, it likely hinders you longterm, in my mind.
Tank on, GarPax. Do it up right.

Re: Trade Thread 2: Make your offers here
Cle wants to trade JR Smith and willing to trade BKN pick for the right player
well ... we could go full rebuild and trade Lopez and LAVine for JR and BKN pick
We pick Doncic and best available Center and with Pels pick we hopefully get one of the Bridges

Re: Trade Thread 2: Make your offers here
Cleveland is crazy to even think about trading that Brooklyn pick. They literally have nothing if LeBron walks (which is fine) considering you’re going into a full rebuild when that happens. But, it just seems illogical to give away that pick for a player that probably wouldn’t fit in the long term plans.
Not that tonight was any different from what they’ve shown all year - but this Cavs team has 0 shot at winning the entire thing this season. Harden and Paul had it easy tonight.

I like Lavine alot but honestly, that's not such a bad idea.
We're talking about 3 top 20 picks in a strong draft here. I think it's worth considering.

Re: Trade Thread 2: Make your offers here
On Saturday, Terry Pluto of the Plain Dealer reported speculation the draft choice is completely off the table is false, but the front office won't move it for a short-term rental upgrade such as Los Angeles Clippers center DeAndre Jordan.
Cleveland is willing to deal the Nets' pick for a "younger player who is under team control for a few years" or would consider trading its own first-rounder for an asset like Jordan, per Pluto.

Re: Trade Thread 2: Make your offers here
I know that the Brooklyn pick has some value, but its not like Brooklyn is guaranteed to land in the top 3 or top 5. I wouldnt consider trading Lavine for that pick. Plus he doesnt really fit the description of someone who is under team control for a few years, as he is coming up on RFA this summer. At this point, I dont think we have what they are wanting in return value.

I wonder if the Spurs make a move? They could use a guy like Holiday as depth/Kawhi insurance. I like Bertans but I'm sure they do to. Maybe a future 1st?

Re: Trade Thread 2: Make your offers here
All this talk about the Brooklyn pick....its not happening for us. We don't have the value even with the Pelicans pick. The actual Cleveland pick is much more realistic and not a bad asset itself.
Given the players being rumored I'd be surprised if the Bulls were able to do anything more than replenish future back end assets.

True. Only way they'll consider trading the BKN pick to Chicago is if LaVine was offered and us taking back a bad contract. Doubt that happens.

Re: Trade Thread 2: Make your offers here
Milwaukee seems to have soured on Thon Maker. He seems like a high upside target if we cant get any draft picks. He has the length, athleticism, and shot to be special at the 5. He just needs experience.
Trade #1
-> Robin Lopez
<- Thon Maker
<- Mirza Teletovic
Trade #2
-> Justin Holiday
-> Jerian Grant
-> Tony Allen
<- Kyle Singler
<- Terrence Ferguson
PG - Dunn / Payne
SG - LaVine / Ferguson
SF - Zipser / Valentine
PF - Markkanen / Portis
C - Maker / Felicio
This would be a really fun team that can shoot the rock.

I like the idea of going after Maker. Maybe even just a swap of Grant could work with the recent Brogdon injury.
The second deal doesn't work as constructed as you can't combine Allen with other players in a deal.

We need a like button. I agree and the best part is Gar and Pax could realistically explore both options 1st with the Draft. If they don't like the offers they can pull out and excersis the addition of a restricted free agent targets.

There are ways to make it work. You just split it into 2 deals.

Yeah I was thinking about that - is that allowed? We can do two separate transactions:
- Tony Allen for Kyle Singler (though I prefer a 2nd round pick, Singler is 29...)
- Justin Holiday and Jerian Grant for Terrence Ferguson
And I would absolutely do Lopez for Maker + fillers.

It is interesting how quickly MKE has given up on Thon Maker. Even if he did lie about his age and he is closer to 23 then 19. Big guys generally take a little longer to develop and if MKE cant be patient for him to develop it would be a good pick up for us. I guess MKE is in win-now mode.
As an added bonus, he is close with Giannis so perhaps we could develop him and then have him help us recruit later.
