Jason Kidd???? Hell no!
Trading Bender??? Hell no!

Trading Len? Yes, but ideally we'd trade him to a contender over the cap looking for a backup center they can resign with bird rights to let them go over the cap. In return we ask for a first rounder (projected to be a late 1st) but ask for it in 2019 or even 2020 and then hope that team implodes. So...Len for a lottery ticket that could turn into a decent pick.

The fact that Willy Hernagomez, the brooklyn pick, DeAndre, etc are still still being shopped tells me that we should have kept Monroe until the deadline to see what happens. :noway: Too much stuff still up in the air we could be apart of.

Kidd thinks the Suns and Knicks can show significant improvement in the near future as they build around rising stars Devin Booker in Phoenix and Kristaps Porzingis in New York. The Mills-Perry regime is expected to be running the Knicks into the future, but Phoenix owner Robert Sarver could make wholesale changes to his basketball operations this coming offseason, starting with firing GM Ryan McDonough, sources say.

That doesn't make sense...

Kidd had Giannis, Parker, Brogdon, Bledsoe etc.

Suns have fewer star players than Bucks...

Or is Kidd obsess about having a sharp shooting star?

He probably just obssesses about having another job and knew he was about to get fired at any time.

Djedefre wrote:Exactly this kind of approach made us so much harm in recent years - you could hear/read the same when Watson was the hc and again a little earlier when it was Hornacek:

1. Pick up the first name you ran into and give him hc job (who cares about his resume, doesn't matter if he's a total beginner or if he ever showed any promise)
2. Try to save a few $ in the process
3. If you notice something's not right with the team, ignore it and act like nothing's happening
4. When team starts accumulating losses, launch the self-deceiving program - make up all kinds of silly excuses to justify poor coaching, give all the credit for player x/y improvement to current hc and preach patience
5. Start lowering already low standards and expectations
6. When everything starts falling apart and it's too late, finally admit you messed up and repeat the process from step 1 to 6

I'm tired of incompetent coaches in the making that take first steps in the coaching job. I'm willing to wait for players to develop and pick up their game, but god i'm sick of coach prospects. This 'solutions' (like this giving Triano a shot suggestions) are just wasting time. If we really want to get out of this black hole, solid and reliable coach with philosophy is condition of all conditions. We can continue lowering the bar but i'm afraid we're already touching the bottom.

My point isn't that he should be hired or that he's guaranteed the job, it's that you're completely short changing him as a coach because you want change. Calling him a "coach prospect" and "coach in the making" is flat out disingenuous when he's been around the game for 30 years, has NBA head coaching experience from 10 years ago, was an assistant for the US Olympic team, has multiple stints as coach of Canada's national team including being brought on as head coach by their current GM Steve Nash, and was an assistant for the Blazers when they were developed Dame and CJ and made playoff runs. The guy's been around the game forever and is well respected in the NBA and coaching community, he's not a 1st year D-League assistant coach like Earl or a guy that was an assistant for a year or 2 like Hornacek. I'd like to get the best guy we can land and I don't know if it's Triano, but he wouldn't be the doom of the franchise like you're implying if he were the guy that stuck.

Triano may very well be better than some college candidate. College candidates often botch opportunities..some of the best ones, such as Rick Pitino and Calipari were major failures at the NBA level.

If Len is traded then he loses his bird rights. And because of this he essentially has a no trade clause. So finding him a new home will be extremely difficult.

I don't want to put too much into this, but when the initial reports of Kawhi being unhappy in SA I figured the Suns would possibly try and showcase JJ more. I thought maybe if JJ can start to show more consistent flashes of being a great player, the Spurs would consider trading Kawhi for a package centered around JJ. Now that JJ has put together a string of 4 20 point games I am reluctant to trade him.
Now I know a lot of you think the Spurs would never trade Kawhi, but remember he can get the designated player extension which would be more than what John Wall will be getting in the future. And people are already saying that that contract is a financial burden. It makes signing other players virtually impossible because it takes so much cap space.
Before the draft the Spurs were trying to move up to acquire Jackson, even dangling LMA to make it happen. Now, I know a 32 year old LMA isn't the same as a 26 year old Kawhi, especially when LMA was putting up something like 18 and 8. But now he is looking like a top 15 player in the league and that's after he signed a 4 year extension. The Spurs have also been mentioned to be interested in Stanley Johnson, though Johnson would likely be a lot cheaper price than JJ but they have the same mold of being athletic wingman. It makes me wonder why the Spurs are so interested in these players when they already have the best two way wing player in Kawhi. Maybe they don't see him sticking around unless it's only for the designated extension l, and perhaps they don't feel any player is actually worth that kind of salary. So obviously a cheaper alternative while still remaining competitive is to go after players on their rookie deals.
Now I'm not sure if the Spurs would even trade Kawhi, but what if they approached the Suns and said they would trade Kawhi for JJ, Warren, Len, both Heat picks, the Bucks pick, and our 2019 1st unprotected and our 2021 1st with top 7 protection. Is that a deal you would take, if Kawhi gave us verbal confirmation that he would stay with us?

I know I strung together a strange web, but it's close to the deadline and I just wanted to spice up the board a bit.

There is only ONE college coach that I would call and he coaches in Storrs, CT and I am not talking about Kevin Ollie.

And as much as I like Auriemma -I still prefer Triano, Fizdale, Van Gundy, Messina , JB Bickerstaff, even Mike Brown.

I think that is way too many assets to give up for Kawhi Leonard. He needs players around him - -and your deal its just Booker , Chriss and Bender.

I would have no problem with JJ or Warren; both Heat picks are fine. Of course the Bucks pick - Chriss or Bender

Which is probably not going to get it done

Booker at PG is fine I think. It allows play defense in a way that they are focused on him therefore creating spaces for others. The ultimate example being the warriors and rockets.

If Warren could simply be a 3pt threat... That would Make a huge difference.

Jackson can then be that slasher who is not shy to shoot the 3pt shot like Warren is.

Bender has shown balls finally two consecutive games. This needs to continue. I think someone or himself did read the criticism from here haha. He now shoots on top of smaller players and drives pass slower big men.

It's probably nothing because he's a lot older now but Westphal has been around the team a lot recently, it seems. He's even joined the broadcast.

Personally, I think Triano has been decent. It's tough t get young guys to motivate themselves- their emotions are up and down too quickly on the Court and that shakes their confidence, particularly defensively. No confidence = no wins. It's why the team needs a good vet starter beyong Chandler. Get one stable All-star vet and this team will be very different. Get a second and we will contend with the other pieces we have. Not trying to sound like Captain Obvious here, just trying to show All Stars value can go beyond their own play on the Court.

Have to find the right one....

Spurs are sneaky good at trading for diamonds even though no one should be surprised haha.

But I would offer...

Jackson, Suns 2018 top 5 protected pick, Bucks 2018 pick, Heat 2018 pick.

Spurs then trade their first or one of the picks from suns to Pistons for Stanley Johnson.

That's a good haul for Kawhi. Because they remain a playoff team but adding huge pieces moving forward. Right now they are winning without Kawhi so I think they can use this to conbuild... Then maybe then sign a PG and they're back As top 3 team with heaps of picks and youth.

I'd be on board with this.

If we get a top 5 pick, we keep it! And we get to pair the Claw with Booker and TJ and Bender/Chriss.

That would make us attractive again to free agents.

Personally, I would look to put Warren a mix of Miami's and the Buck's and our pick next year as the option. Like the Lakers I am not a fan of doing anything to help the Spurs and giving the Spurs anything to do with Jackson and our pick this year would be close to help them for my taste.
Just say no to idiots!!

If not Triano - another "lifer coach" : Fizdale, Messina with the Spurs, Van Gundy, heck Mike Brown. Enough with former players. Hire guys that have coached lots and lots of games.

Dave King had this trade idea:

Bender and Bucks 2nd rounder for Dinwiddie and Zeller

Is this selling low on Bender? Is the Heat pick outright too much for Dinwiddie?

Also says the Suns are shopping Len - but I think he has to approve any deal. And they already have Okafor. But two big guards in Dinwiddie and Booker might be nice to see moving forward. I like the idea of trading for Dinwiddie.

Trading Bender for Dinwiddie is insane. He and Jackson have been the biggest bright spots of late. They're 20. Dave King needs to get a day job.

Why not add in Booker for Russell?

not interested in trading jackson for anyone available especially if it includes multiple draft picks. I think JJ can some day become a mini leanord.

Bender is still 20....wow! Flashes is what he’ll keep doing for awhile, however, if those flashes turn to consistence play at the five....boom! Same with JJ. Call me crazy, but I’d rather have JJ at the POint Forward than Booker.

Booker
JJ
TJ
JJJ
Bender
...... Jaren Jackson would be pretty nice. It’s a better fit than Trae Young.

Young
Booker
Then JJ and TJ contrast here and we have a problem at the four.
