#1 Problem with hornets...Life is too good

I use this theory a lot more in football, because you have to have your tenacity and motor on 100% to stick around..

but in the case of the hornets, All of these players have fat contracts...except Kemba...

No urgency..all of these players made their money, On the downside of their career, not in a contract year, no pressure from the city/state to win...

Like Bernard Hopkins said "Its hard to get out of bed and train, when you are sleeping in silk pajamas."

It seems like all of our players fell off once they got paid....MKG, Batum, Marvin, Zeller
Dwight is garbage (idc what the numbers say)

Obryant, MKG, and MCW play hard but they are not good basketball players.

I like Kemba, Lamb, and frank the tank....Everyone else can GOOOOOOO

Hate to break it to you, but this is the NBA. Where contracts are guaranteed 100% and the salary cap can go up or down at any time. Where it is almost impossible to pry a guy early in his career from the team who drafted him when free agency hits unless you're willing to trade. Where even if you have a historically bad year and worse record than anyone else, you must win a lottery to pick the best player. Where once a guy gets his contract, he can dial the effort back and have nothing to worry about other than what city he will have to live in while making millions upon millions.

NBA is finally making improvements, but I think if they took a page out of the NFL's book in terms of how contracts are written it would go a long way.

Sorry for the negative rant, I just wish the league was setup a little differently so teams like the Hornets weren't so stuck and didn't require massive luck to get unstuck.

Best season the Hornets had was two years ago and half the team was in the last year of their contract. You do the math.

My sense is that they did well more because of the talent on the roster vs that it was the last year of a contract. Team has really missed Lin & Lee.

I will say that I do buy the "life is too good" for Batum.

Agreed. At the same point in the season in 2015-16 we were only like 4 losses better than we are right now, and we hadn't been missing Cody for basically the entire season up to that point.

I think there are flaws in this logic.

Sure, some players get paid and are done (cough D Rose cough), but there's also guys that are out there playing every night, not for money, but for respect.

When you have tons of fans watching you every night, it's not an easy thing to take the money and not fulfill your end of the bargain. I watched it in Batum earlier this season. After the Kemba trade talk released, fans started to get angry at Batum. It's not easy to be that guy getting booed at your home stadium and you're going to be here for years to come.

There's also the part about playing for that next contract. GMs around the league are going to take notice of how our guys performed in the early part of their contracts and they'll get smaller contracts later on.
