Tracking very nicely for his age at the moment.

He's being under utilized offensively, he's already putting up superstar type stats when he does shoot the ball, he just doesn't do that enough at the moment.

In all the season in the NBA, there have only been 24 player seasons of TS% over .630 with 10 or more shot attempts and at least 1 3pt made per game. Towns is one of those 24. There are only 13 players on that list D.Barros(1), S.Curry(3), K.Durant(4), J.Harden(1), L.James(2), K.Johnson(1), R.Miller(3), C.Mullin(2), Steve Nash(3), T.Porter(1), JJ Redick(1), D.Schremphf(1), Towns(1). The 2 youngest to do it are Harden and Towns at age 22.

The question is how do we get him utilized more? I don't think Wiggins is very good in PnR when the teams doubles him. Does make the right play and his handle isn't good enough. Seems like Butler runs PnR with Gibson because Towns provides better spacing for Gibson to roll to the rim. For some reason Towns doesn't get good position in post up when teams are physical with him. Plus we have a Teague thread already which so his passing in the post isn't great.

What line up would work the best for Towns on both ends of the court? I would like to see him play more with Belly and Tyus on offense but can he support those two on the defensive end? Seems like we run a lot of plays for Butler when he is out there and then when he is out Wiggins and Crawford take over. I think we need better pacing and a PG who knows how to get guys the ball in their spots. ( please don't turn this into a Rubio thread because remember I said spacing)

So what the solution?

KAT shooting so far this season

Post#1144 » by life_saver » Thu Feb 8, 2018 5:47 pm

Incredible numbers -
Field Goal % - 54.2% (12th in league)
3 Point Shooting - 42.9% (11th in league)
Effective Field Goal% - 60.3% (8th in league)
True Shooting - 64.6% (4th in league)

4th highest in the NBA this season in True Shooting. Only behind Steph, Capela, and DeAndre Jordan. So, basically behind the greatest shooter ever, and two heavy rim-runners that have an average shot distance < 2 feet

Averages only 13.7 attempts per game so far this season which is by far the lowest among top 30 players(in points per game) this season

Can't believe at one point people were arguing Okafor over KAT. Just like now when people argue Embiid over KAT. People are stupid.

Crazy considering he was pretty bad the 1st two months, but has been on fire since. 90% from 3 in February. Can we see 98% by mid march?

Okafor sure. I think that was based, in part, on Flip’s reported love for his low post game, but KAT was the clear #1 pick for the he last half of that season.

Embiid is different. He’s not quite the offensive player KAT is but he may be the defensive player of the year. I take KAT long term based on Embiid’s injury histories, but if I could be guaranteed both would stay healthy, I’m not sure who I take.

Okay, lets put it this way. Who would you take. Prime Harden or Prime Kyle Lowry.

Will be the king of the NBA in a year or so.
"That's why the last two years weren't guaranteed," Walsh said. "Either way, he knew it could have happened either way."

It's more like prime Steve Nash or prime Gary Payton.

Based on Nash's total effect on the entire offense Nash IMO is the best offensive basketball player in the history of the NBA. I love the Glove, but Nash a very easy call over Payton IMO.

Towns was absolutely great in his first all star game. At the end of the first quarter he was the MVP.

Someone please give this article to Thibs. We have unstoppable bigman who can hit 3s with easy and who barely touches the ball in offense.

I'm completely ready to see the whole team built around Towns but the way the roster is constructed right now that doesn't work. The only good off the ball players in the starting lineup are Towns and Gibson, Butler and Teague are probably subpar off the ball players and Wiggins is nearly invisible off the ball. So as of now, Towns is mostly being played off the ball although he could be a 25-30 point a night guy.

Minnesota's ceiling for the next decade is tied to Towns.
