the writers of Its Always Sunny In Philadelphia are writing a hilarious Super bowl episode based on these results as we speak.

cant wait to see it.

Since football seems to be dominating the thread, I thought I'd add some REAL football news.

São Paulo beat Madureira to advance in the Brazilian Cup (Copa de Brasil = still a long way from anything important) and also won a game in the state championship. In the Brazilian Cup, we play a team from Alagoas (CSA) or Amazonas (Manaus) next. The dangers with small teams are crappy stadiums, hostile crowds, and bad referees. Plus the other team isn't trying to win... they are trying to draw and maybe hit you on a counter-attack. It's ugly.

Image

Notice Heat colors?

For the state championship, we know the rest of the games for the first phase.

Bragantino: 07/Feb (home)
Ituano: 15/Feb (away)
Santos: 18/Feb (home)
Ferroviario: 25/Feb (home)
Linense: 04/Mar (away)
Palmeiras: 07/Mar (away)
Red Bull: 11/Mar (home)

Here are the standings now. São Paulo is first in their group B. Two teams from each group classify for quarterfinals. The winners of the quarterfinals play semifinals. The winners of the semifinals play the finals.

Image

Getting into the quarterfinals is not a problem for us. It's the knockout stages that kill us lately.

This season feels better, but I still suspect we suck.

Because last season was so bad, we didn't qualify for Libertadores (where the better teams of the continent play.) This season, with the World Cup, it will be a compressed schedule too.

Instead, we play the second-rate continental championship, Sul-Americano. Two games to start against Rosario Central of Argentina: April 12 (there) and May 9 (at home). We need to outplay them to make the next round. Sul-American is all knockouts.

The Brazilian Championship of 20 teams begins in June and runs until December.

Any World Cup projections?

“I feel sorry for Tony Ferguson, because on April 7, Tony Ferguson is probably never gonna fight again,” Abel-Aziz said. “I’m concerned for his well-being, I’m serious. I’m not just saying that to promote a fight. I’m concerned for him. I’m hearing some reports — and I respect Eddie Bravo, he’s a legend — I’m hearing that he’d accept, he’d be more than happy for Khabib to take him down. And I’ll tell you something … he’s not gonna be a normal human being. He’ll be in trouble. Because if he accepts takedown from Khabib and he will take him down, he will disfigure his whole entire face.”

“I’m concerned — again, one more time — I really mean it. I’m concerned with Tony Ferguson’s health. He will not be the same. He might not fight again.”
