Who else among the Lotto teams shares The Magic's desire to draft a PG? PHX just got better and will win more this year. Orlando just lobbed a grenade into PHX's tank.

LOL I love this plan. Seriously though, are we really that team that will again give a rookie the keys? Let him shoot 20 3's a game with veteran players around him?

I'm, actually thinking that if we draft in the top4, we get Doncic/Porter/Bagley/Ayton then come out with a trade that will get us a vet PG in the mold of Rubio/Hill/Kemba etc ( not them literally but in their tier)

Whose to say he has to take 20 3s. Just Having a guard who can run the offense be respected to shot and has solid passing vision would be huge for this team. Heck at this point anyone in the top 5 will be huge.

The league determined the value for A PG that can't shoot, defend, nor be a leader on the court after 3.5 years.

Would have been nice to get something tangible, but that's not what he's worth at this point.

A second rounder is better than nothing.

1) Movement 2) Application of fundamentals 3) Predictability

So no one feels that if Payton had started his career elsewhere. Same stats, same everything besides location. He would’ve gotten more in return?

Thing is... Trae is in the 6-7 range not in the top 5. Doncic/Ayton/Bamba/Bagley/Porter (in any order) are the consensus now. Although the NCAA isn't over yet and he might even be the #1 depending on what he does. I'm saying is if he doesn't take those long bomb 3s even at least 10x a game, then he isn't Trae anymore. As I said, this isn't the NCAA where you only have a few seniors in your team and majority are in the same age bracket as you so you can chuck all you want and it's ok. This is the NBA and even the young uns in the league all have paid their dues. Will they be happy a rookie PG chucking that much? Trae has great passing skills in the NCAA, I just hope that it can translate will in the NBA.

Honestly? NOT in today's league where it's all bombs away if you are a guard and/or a lockdown defender if you don't.

We scored 9 points in the first quarter last night, NINE!

Our issue is we dont have players that can shoot the ball (Besides Booker), and i dont think adding Payton to the starting 5 is going to change that. We also have the hardest remaining schedule in the league. The Trae Tank will continue chugging along in Phoenix!

you guys got a great deal! At the end of the day.....the suns are going to milk payton and give him more usage and duties than the magic has ever given him an opportunity to have. The guy is going to feast for the rest of the season.... and chances are you guys will be resigning him to a lucrative contract this offseason.

imma call him having a career high against us.

I can understand our organizations desire to say that he doesn't fit... but the guy is still on his way up and a 2nd round pick is just not enough.. even with the contractual situation. throw in a developing rookie at different position that might need a new start and i would have been good with it.

Oh well.... lemme stop crying over spilled milk.... But Payton.... i wish you all the best!!!! I will only be mad at you if you phoenix and left your hair in Orlando. haha

Whilst you might be right regarding Elfrid's value at this point in the season mate but what I don't get is why didn't the Magic seek to trade Elfrid earlier if they were planning to move him along at some point.

Let's face the facts we blew our Playoff chances well over a month ago and good management would have tested Elfrid's value as soon as this playoff run was done and dusted and perhaps a team making a run would have chucked us something half decent 4 weeks ago. To me this is case of well we f***ked up here, we've kept him too long so we will take what we can get.

Really not happy with what we're doing in the GM office present.

Perception is everything. Look at the Biyombo/Mozgov contracts. I bet Smart would get a better return, and I'd rather have Payton. Smart is obviously a way better defender but I feel like his value would only be that impactful on a select number of teams (Celtics, Spurs, etc).

I wonder if Phoenix gives him the extension, and if so, how much they value him.

i just thought of another salt in the wound.

say we stayed put with saric who won't be at the stateside for 2 more years at that point. and elf's great rookie season did not happen. we were probably going to lose a lot more at the late season games and get porzingis :reporter:

Like your optimism but dude isn’t going to feast. We gave EP every chance to be the lead guard and he didn’t take it. You know Phoenix has Booker, Chriss, Bender, Warren ? EP will be given backup minutes and role and probably be about the same as he was in Orlando.

EP won’t see anything over 11mil per year and that’s being generous. Could see him getting 6-8 Mil per with 3 year team/player option

None of those guys you named play the same position as EP besides Booker occasionally, and also none of those guys besides Booker and Warren and occasionally Josh Jackson have even been putting up big numbers. If they were starting Caanan, Josh Gray, whoever the **** else they had, they will start Elfrid.. at least until the end of this season and gauge how he can play with the team.

True..but in that sense, where do you think Elf would have shined if not us? Him being as it is now I mean.

I think him in Philly or Minnesota as far as younger teams, and then any older team with structure would like to have him as a role player/25 minute guy. Maybe not shine, but certainly not on the trade market.

It's just funny to see people here say how we've given all of these guys opportunities to shine with conviction when we've yet to actually develop any player properly since Dwight. A lot more goes into it than minutes and a starting opportunity.

Knowing how lucky we are, Payton will average 20ppg 10apg and 45% from 3pt line next season.
We suck so much, I'm freaking tired of this crap.

yep. We gave him a chance to be the lead guard but took the ball out of his hands and gave it to Dipo to develop his handling, basically not letting him do what he does best which is run the offense and break down off the dribble. That's how you develop someone. yay!

Just another stupid move in the long list of stupid moves by this franchise. Oh well. We'll continue to be horrible under this management. But I can't stop watching. Hopefully it works out. PHX will be in the playoffs long before we will be.

All of those guys are ahead of EP in the pecking order for shots and stuff. EP will have a hard time feasting as yo-yo think he will. Like I said he’ll probably have the same impact as he did in a orlando. Not bad but not good enough to make a huge difference.

I will happily eat crow if he shows out.
