Magelinka looked at over 870 scenarios
According to Pelinka during access Lakers, he and magic meet for 6 to 8 hours every day, going over different scenarios. Have a thick binder. And said they had over 800 scenarios of every situation and deal, and felt this 1 was best in creating cap space, and getting back a 1st rounder, that was lost in the Steve Nash trade.

Not surprised. Our trade thread went 101 pages--that's a lot to go through!

Exactly, those same scenarios this board goes over, I'm sure mangelika went over some of those ones.

Lol this is where him being an agent helped big time. He has connections and relationships our last front office lacked. Due diligence

IF, and it's a huge IF, but if the 2018-2019 cap plan ends as a success (atleast one max level player is a success to me, 2 max level players is beyond success), but IF this happens, magic and Rob creep up in the elite tier FO's in this league...We are talking about a short list that includes GSW, SA, and probably Bos, OKC, Miami and Houston. Combining that with the Laker brand, the LA market, and our scouting department is a recipe for a potential dynasty.

You are right. It’s all about not biting on the pump fake free agents. Like Deng and Moz. Patience and staying the course.

2. No Melo/LMA? Let's sign Deng and Mozgov.

Let me just say that nobody really cares about the "LA Market" the way they used to. Thats a term blown out of proportion ever since the Dwight Howard saga. 90% of these NBA players live in LA 6 out of the 12 months anyway. That "chip" is not really a chip anymore when it comes to whealing and dealing.

I think it's a bit more nuanced than this. Considering we've always had at least one superstar player, being in the LA market was probably considered a premium during said times. My guess is, once we have at least one superstar, "LA Market" will have the flair it once had.

Re: Magelinka looked at over 870 scenarios
That's a lot of mixing and matching.
I've been thinking for some time now how it's impossible for any team to keep a stacked team, loaded with players with All Star potential and players lacking on some aspects, but are very good on doing one thing (offense or defense).
I realized it's a combination of patience from FO and fans, long term financial implications, and potential superstar acquisitions. I can't really think of any team that waited for their young players to blossom and become superstars. Was hoping we'd be that team.
Not complaining though. Lakers are in the best place right now, winning and has a high chance to sign stars during the off season. Former players are also in a good position to compete on a higher level and get a taste of post season (hopefully).

Re: Magelinka looked at over 870 scenarios
I'll eat some crow about yesterday.
It was well known I had 0 faith in Earvin & Pelinka. I won't start calling Earvin by his nickname yet, but I will eat some crow and praise them for the job they did yesterday.
I thought they would panic and trade Randle for a couple second round picks because I honestly thought in their minds they thought Nance was a better player than Randle when it's very clear he wasn't.
Great trade. The future looks bright with Ball, Ingram, Kuzma, Hart, Randle and 60 million in cap space.

Randle isn’t part of our core. It’s Ingram, Zo, Kuzma, and Hart. Hell even Rob mentioned Bryant as well.
Randle is here because we couldn’t get a 1st for him and he’s playing well. He’ll either sign the QO, we’ll sign and trade him, and or he’ll walk. We will have to renounce him in order to get two max slots.

Yeah, but we're not going to let him walk unless we get LeBron and Paul George.
My prediction is he signs a 4 year deal, starting somewhere between 9-10M per season. The Lakers understand what the market is going to be in the summer and that's why he's here. In an off-season where cap space is going to be very limited league wide, that will be the best offer he can get.

I don’t see Rob tying up our books for the next four years for Randle. Clearly the FO would’ve loved to move him yesterday but no one would offer a 1st.
If we don’t sign max free agents and or just one this summer, I fully expect us to offer the QO to Randle and call it a summer. That will keep us flexible for 2019. As for Randle, that will postpone his payday from whatever team would like him. Just don’t see Rob tying up our books although his price may be low In this market.
Of course.. none of this would be a problem if it wasn’t for that Deng deal. We have to find a way to get rid of it completely. If we can sign and trade Randle while getting a pick back and expiring contract plus a pick.. that would be huge. Could move picks and Deng then.

This is probably a good time to remind people that realgm licenses a proprietary version of the trade checker to nba teams that lists all possible trade scenarios that meet any parameters they desire.

You gotta be kidding me? So Magic can just input 'ye gimme 67 mil and cap space but leave Zo, Ingram and Kuzma alone' and boop it just gives him all the possible scenarios?

These are billion dollar organizations... If they didn't get it from RealGM, you can be assured they'd get it from somewhere or hire the people to make it themselves.

Quite possibly, they had a binder on the table, and then a 50inch screen on the wall with a keyboard, and linked into RealGM, and punching in scenarios. There ya have it, just plugged the trade checker.
