Heyman reports the Brewers did offer 9 figures to Darvish.

In regards to the Brewers I don't like how it looks having the official Brewers account promoting a concert in October when the playoffs are going on. Sure the date can be changed but contending teams shouldn't be scheduling concerts in October. Pick an off day during the summer or wait until November.

Yeah that concert might be moved from Sunday to Monday. Big difference for anyone traveling from out of town.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Well, that should be expected.

Any team offering less than 100 million would quickly find themselves ignored by his agent/agency.

Seems like the Brewers have the largest offer on the table currently for Darvish and as others have said and what was expected, its a 9 figure offer:

It seems logical to guess that teams are probably in the 5 year/$100 - $125 million range on Darvish and he's looking for more years. It's likely not a good idea but I wouldn't be surprised if someone blinks and tacks a 6th year onto their offer.

I honestly think the issue is just that he doesn't want to go to Minnesota or Milwaukee. The only reason he hasn't signed is because he wants NYY or LAD to throw him an offer.

I'm no HH19 tho, so that's just a completely made up idea in my head.

I could buy that theory too. I don't think anyone really knows what Darvish's thought process is. If you believe what HH19 was saying, teams involved had no idea what he was thinking and were getting frustrated.

Agents for other starters may be getting frustrated also because Darvish could be holding up what happens to them with teams waiting on Darvish first.

Oh for sure. You need the first big domino to fall, and then everything else will fall in line.

Funny thing here, to me, is about all the middle tier free agents who are worried they won't get paid. I think there are going to be quite a few teams who will panic after not getting Yu, Arrieta, Hoz, Moosetacos and throw dumb money at Lynn, Cashner, Duda, LoMo, etc.

As we fall further behind. So smart making the moves that we did.

Well, at least that should get the market going. Boras is going to want something in that neighborhood for Arrieta and I'd take a hard pass on that. I'd consider Cobb if the price was reasonable.

I'm a little afraid that we're going to end up with Arrieta, just a gut feeling that this is where things have been heading all along.

If we only spend free agent money the rest of the way, I’m fine with it all.

This is annoying. Wish he would've just gone back to LA.

I don't know why ending up with Arrieta would be a bad thing. I thought it was the silver lining of the report that Darvish had signed with the Cubs specifically. Means the Arrieta domino may well now fall in the direction of the Brewers because they can't sign both. Arrieta may not be ideal because he could be a little on the downside, but he's not that old at the same time, and they absolutely need a potential ace to follow-up their previous moves to make them justifiable.

This is honestly pretty annoyingly reasonable if the incentives are nonsense and it's basically a straight 6/126. Probably took that 6th year to get it done but the Cubs can easily afford that gamble.

32, declining velocity, declining ground ball rates, harder contact, costs a draft pick.

And the Cubs never showed any interest in signing Arrieta. Even if Darvish signed somewhere else they most likely weren't going to re-sign him.

Yeah, basically sums up what I was going to most much more efficiently.
