Buycks is under contract for next season. Unguaranteed, but Detroit has him if they want him.
Opposing execs have been impressed by guard Dwight Buycks (13 points on 52 percent shooting over the last five games). July is a long way away but several execs see Buycks as a player who will be sought after in the open market by teams that don’t have significant cap space.

I remember that day. Detroit converted Buycks from a two-way player to a regular contract player a few hours after that article. It was kind of funny timing, and hence Marks' tweet the same day (January 12th) after 6. The contract details didn't come out until a few days later.

It just seems to be a matter of differing info depending on where you look. Obviously the cheap partially guaranteed contract for next year would benefit the team more than the RFA status.
