Old Superstar or 1st round picks?

Post#1 » by LakersLegacy » Sat Feb 10, 2018 12:25 am

Would you rather have a 34 year old LeBron or absorb some bad expiring contracts for first round picks and also go hard at free agency in 2019?

Jokic
Kawhi
Butler
Klay

If you could choose.

if we were certain those guys would be willing to leave their teams for the lakers, sure

but if lebron is saying yes, you get married for 3 years

Kawhi and Jokic, could you imagine

Ball-Leonard-Ingram-Kuzma-Jokic

That should be the goal to be honest, though i'd take any 2/3 out of Jokic, George and Leonard in truth.

History suggests that whoever gets Lebron is getting him on a 1+1. You won't get a 3 year commitment

Jokic with be a RFA. There's no way Den will let him go.

My bad. You are right.

If Denver decides to pick up Jokic option, he becomes an UNRESTRICTED free agent in 2019, which means that if he wants to sign somewhere else he’s gone. If Denver declines Jokic 1.6 million option, he becomes a RESTRICTED free agent in 2018, and Denver can match any offer.

Let’s hope Denver is cheap in 2018. Jokic would be perfect with this group and Lukes offense. And he’s young.

ah, ok didn't realise that's how it works. They'll match the max for him i'm sure.

meh, he stayed at the heat for 4 years, he's stayed on the cavs the 2nd time around for 4 years

it's probably going to be the same even with the rolling 1+1 deals

We're 4 years into "go with the draft" and we've got no future All Stars on this squad in all likelihood if one takes off the purple glasses. Drafting 19 year old "one and done" kids is a serious crapshoot.

That said, I don't think Magic thinks he's here to just draft kid after kid.... he's here to attract the top FA's to LA. The last time we did that was Shaq ( I don't count Nash because that was pure charity) so it's no small feat to get a top FA to come here. I think we will try this approach with everything we've got for a few years and if it doesn't work then my guess is that Magic will probable move on.

Or he'll just jump ship to a team in a better position to win a title. It's his MO after all.

PG is 27 ladies... He should and will be the #1 target for us... Pelinka will remind Magic that a 28 year old star is better than a 34 year old star... He also fits in seemlessly on both ends... Ball (6’6”), PG (6’9), Ingram (6’10 & growing), Kuzz (6’9”) & a pogo stick... If we had PG right now, we would be the 6th seed today... Give the young bucks and coaches another season & we could be very dangerous...

I get it to a degree but I think a 34 year old Bron is much more impactful than PG..... at least for 2 years or so. PG is good but he's not as impactful as having LeBron.

It seems like we're in "swing for the fences" mode again. PG can be is just as good of a position in OKC long term as here. Now, if we get Bron (I still think this is a very long shot btw) then I think his position in LA would be much better than in OKC.

The 1st round pick(s). The current roster, even with 2 very good FA, wouldn't be near a complete roster.
Next year, the Lakers will have their own pick + any pick they can acquire for taking on a bad contract.
The scouting department has managed to find good value after the 20th pick for the last 4 years: Clarkson, Nance, Zubac, Kuzma, Hart.
Give them another 4-5 late picks in the next two drafts and they'll find other good players to fit with the team.

Top priority for me is George, no question.

From there, if you get an agreement with him, you can take that to LeBron and his camp in a meeting and have something to pitch that’s worthwhile. If George doesn’t want LeBron with him or LeBron doesn’t agree, you can filter into other plans. Re-signing Randle, punting the remainder of the cap space to 2019 by A) signing a player on a big money 1 year deal. Ex- Barton, Bradley, Thomas, etc. Or B) acquiring a bad contract and accumulating a pick.

1st round pick. Why would LeBron leave what he has in Cleveland? He has new teammates and he has the Brooklyn pick that they can dangle to entice a team to get another superstar along with their bench. We can’t compete with that...

I kinda think Lebron won't leave but Cleveland will have some tough choices with the huge luxury tax they are headed for if they stay where they are at now.

I like the Idea of PG13. He is a scrappy defender that I don't see anyone like that on the Lakers now.

Lakers need Stronger Defensive players are going to do what it takes to get the ball, rebound and win.

What about Capela? If we get PG13(30m/y), would you offer Capela a 4y 18/20m per?
I dont believe we can sign Jokic(Nuggets will extend him this FA, giving him a max).
