Re: Foster arrested.
He seems like a likable-enough guy and is a beast on the field when healthy, but you've got to wonder if they'll cut him at this point to send a message.

Re: Foster arrested.
There's so much I personally could say. I don't know what the right words are with him right off the bat. Obviously there's the seriousness of the real life stuff he's going to continue to have to go through and the legal stuff will all have to play itself out. You wish the best for the right people first and then maybe somewhere in there you start to think of Foster and the things he surrounds himself with regardless of how this is going to play itself out.
As a draft guy I just continue to go back to the debate of what each person saw in him when he was coming out. I've argued with people about maturity levels in people in the past where side A saw one set of traits and side B saw a different set of traits but I don't know if I can quite find the right comparison to the arguments that were being made for Foster as a person and the argument that was working against Foster the person.
Again there's the seriousness of the life stuff with him that FAR outweighs that of anything football related or telling someone you were right or you were wrong about them but it's just amazing to me how so many odd red flags were missed and how many were not even ACKNOWLEDGED about the guy in WELL-EDUCATED areas of the scouting community. Far beyond anything where one could say, "Well, maybe you saw one bad interview." No, it was over and over and over and over again that made it up. That part of it is sad on a different level than the life stuff because many times that stuff is the easiest to peg with these guys.

I just don’t see it in this guy when he’s talking to the media. Does he have multiple personalities or something? Just a great actor in front of the camera? Outside the lights he transforms into a massive idiot I guess. Unbelievable.

Re: Foster arrested.
Not this s--- again ...
League will probably suspend him before the team could do anything.
49ers are snakebit with the last few LBs that they've drafted. Maybe time to get some vets in to shore the unit up.
NFL players are damned if they do, damned if they don't. They can't be caught with weed because the league has Reefer Madness mentality from the 19 f------ 50s.
But if they don't smoke, the roid rage will get them in trouble with the law anyways.
OK, trying to lighten the mood with a little joke ...

If he’s not cut I can see him doing something stupid while serving his fat suspension so then he will be done. We can’t expect him to be a contributor anymore.

Re: Foster arrested.
Well as much as I loved Foster coming out of College the domestic violence should end his career. There is no such thing as an assualt rifle. Assualt is an action... If I punch someone in the face thats assault. Him facing charges from a tyrannical state hellbent on denying Constitutional rights means nothing to me. The rights of the people to keep and bear arms SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED. Just because a slew of petty tyrants want the populace disarmed so they are more compliant doesn't mean they are right. And its amusing all thes anti freedom politicians with diarrhea of the mouth on firearms never leave their homes without armed security. Soon a zippo lighter will be an assualt match and Bulk tide pod dispensers will be assualt detergent boxes.

Re: Foster arrested.
League probably doesn't care about the weapons charge. In fact those owners are probably sympathetic to those second amendment solutions mentality.
But they're not going to give any tolerance to DV these days, given the league's checkered history dealing with DV.
Then add the weed charge on top and Foster is toast.
Alabama might have been able to protect him but the NFL won't.

C'mon man!!! Why do these guys not get it? All the talent in the world chance to make millions and be set for life and they do stupid stuff like this. Josh Gordon could have been one of the best. Foster now, just don't get it.

Cutting him doesn't make sense unless you're trying to send a zero tolerance policy message. As **** as this situation is, a 6 game suspension from the league is i think the first punishment for first time DV.
It's gonna be hard to cheer for him now

Re: Foster arrested.
“I would anticipate people maybe questioning some of his character, but I would tell you his character’s what drew us to him,” Lynch said after the 49ers selected Foster in the first round on April 27. “When you start talking football with this young man, he lights up a room, and he’s a good kid. I believe in the kid and I think it’s going to be — he’s going to be a great player for this organization for a long time.”
Not to let this be the topic of discussion but it's stuff like that that has always amazed me. And I'm not even looking for anything in return like, "Well, maybe your argument may have been the right one at the time." This isn't about being one of those internet people that clamors for others to bring up the record of what person X said at any given point. I couldn't care any less about that part of it. All that stuff is stupid. For me it's the conversational aspect of it and the scouting aspect of it that goes into it.
Was I closer to the right Reuben Foster at the time? Did I have the true Reuben Foster pegged? I don't know how I would put it now. I'm not even suggesting I was saying, "Yep. He's going to get a DUI. He's going to be accused of X, Y, and Z one day." Would I have said that if he found himself in either of those boats one day would I be surprised? I'd have said heck no it wouldn't surprise me. Would I have guaranteed it either? Not saying that either. I'm just saying I don't know how I could have ever watched that guy and thought some of the things that were said about him before and after the draft.
I can only speak to how it made me feel when I researched him over a couple years. Everything just felt forced with him. Sure, if you didn't get fake/phony feelings from it I'm sure it would feel like it would light up a room. I just don't know how more people didn't get that from him OVER YEARS OF EVIDENCE when he would speak. It goes beyond whether or not he was a good speaker. You can be a bad speaker and light up a room and do all these things. I'm talking about reading his body language. Look at the interactions he had with people. It felt like he was trying to win the game show of life. He said stuff at the time that to me felt like he was saying stuff that he felt like was the RIGHT thing to say and not because that's how he actually felt. His wording, his phrases, the EMOTION in which he spoke was very forced/fake and unauthentic.
Then you get into the documented stories of known people he was hanging around with. Which leads you into the discussion of, "Is this guy someone who is going to shed any bad influences around him once he has a job?" For me the forced/unauthentic stuff and the way he talked about some of those serious issues rubbed/rubs me the wrong way. That's the stuff that I can't forgive some people for regardless of how this stuff unfolds. Maybe I'm a jerk for it.
In closing I'm not even saying you can't be some of those things and not be a great football player. You can be the biggest phony, the worst speaker, and a terrible person and handle your business and be reckless to a degree and still be a really good football player. And one that keeps themselves on the field. It's been done before. It'll be done by some until the end of time I'm sure. Outside of major changes it does not appear RF can have that kind of make up and still keep himself on a field, though.
Actually, now I want to make another point and end on a positive note. This is all the more reason to celebrate who NaVorro Bowman became over time. He came in as a guy that wasn't the most well spoken or the guy who may have had everything figured out yet, or was the most disciplined and one who rubbed everybody the right way but the transformation he made over time is still to this day one of the most impressive things I've seen off the field in a long time. Credit to his support staff that helped him with that and credit to NB for all that he did to turn himself into a man that a lot of people SHOULD be able to root for and one who does A LOT of known things the right way. It didn't always seem like he'd get there but he got there in a big, big way as a man.

Re: Foster arrested.
Maybe Foster slid in the draft because teams had a sense this guy could have all kinds of off field troubles.
At the time they said he slid because of injury concerns.
But he's still injury-prone as well as now personal problems.
Time to move on.

Re: Foster arrested.
On another forum, they brought up the fact that Kyle and Lynch cut Trumaine Brock right away for DV as well.
So you would think they'd have zero tolerance for DV. Plus you had Jed talking about winning with class and they cut Aldon loose shortly thereafter.
And the league is going to err these days on the side of over punishing players who commit DV. With the other charges on top, Foster won't play much if at all next season, even if the team was inclined to try to keep him.
It's a tough pill to swallow, having to let a first-round pick go after just one season. Especially given the history this team has had with LBs in recent years.

Re: Foster arrested.
We've seen talent trump off field issues, and Reuben is teetering that line. Honestly it could go either way with the front office.

Brock situation turned out for naught, I think Lynch learned that he jumped too quick and will try to be as patient as possible with this case. Of course, if anything is found out, Foster's football career is damaged...no question.
