Saw the Foreigner with Jackie Chan a couple of weeks ago. Don't know if its still in the theatre, but its AWESOME. Old School action movie with that has nice suspense. Brosnan is great in it as well.

I have seen it 3 times already. denis villeneuve is the absolute best. Sorry Christopher Nolan

I took a sick day on Thursday to make sure I saw it a 2nd time before it left theaters on Friday, you pick-up on details you missed the first time the 2nd time around. Looking forward to geeking-out on the DVD extras when that comes out.

yep, the 2nd time was terrific. it's an absolute disgrace that its losing big money at the box office.

I like Black Mirror, pretty thought provoking stories, but agree with the mixed bag comment. It can go jump around from gripping suspense through dark comedy to slow and cerebral. I'm about halfway through the current season. Also watching Fortitude on Amazon, with the fictional Arctic location and scenery a great attraction, along with a northern Twin Peaks ambiance. Also Godless on Netflix, which is well done but seems very familiar, reminds me of High Plains Drifter, Outlaw Josey Wales, maybe Dead Man and some others. Jeff Daniels is certainly creating a whole new persona for future bad guy roles.

If you're into horror/suspense two flicks that pleasantly surprised me:

The Ritual
The 9th Life of Louis Drax

Nothing earth shattering here, but if you're a Netflix hound like me The Ritual in particular was a pleasant surprise after desperately looking for something to watch.

Thanks for the recommendations. I remember liking High Tension when it came out, haven't been too grabbed by subsequent movies, but will try Louis Drax, and also The Ritual (if I ever get some time).

I watched a lot of horror around Halloween, mostly on Netflix, mostly bad, but liked The Invitation and also Creep (There's a Creep 2, haven't seen it).

The best stand-up specials of last and this year:
Maron, Todd Barry, Norm MacDonald, Chapelle, Kathleen Madigan...

But, the best might just be Jerrod Carmichael’s. That kid is the next big thing in a line with Murphy, Rock, Chapelle...

Black Mirror explores really interesting and plausible futuristic concepts in the classic tradition of science fiction. It's almost like some of the better episodes of Star Trek or Twilight Zones in that regard. However, it is hit-or-miss on the execution. Some episodes are really good, some are rather slow and boring.

Overall, it's a good show, mostly because nobody else has done good science fiction in a long time. These days, "science fiction" is merely using space as an alternative setting to tell the same old drama.

A really funny half-hour sitcom on Netflix is Schitt's Creek.

And Last Kingdom is way better than Vikings.

I've made it through Last Kingdom so far. I'll skip Vikings based on the above assessment. My TV watching time is basically 11 PM - 1 AM now, so it better be either fairly engaging or completely mindless (think Son of the Beach), no in between. Sometimes even the handsome historical productions (Last Kingdom, Marco Polo, etc.) are too demanding.

If you haven't seen it, you might like Valhalla Rising. It's a spiritual successor to Aguirre, The Wrath of God, my favorite movie ever. Dersu Uzala is another in that spectrum (historical adventures with spiritual/supernatural elements). Don't know how you are with subtitles, but they all have them.

The OA I loved, it's not for everyone though

I need to check out Mind Hunter.

I didn't think Season 2 of Stranger Things was as good as the first, but I still very much enjoyed it.

The OA started off pretty good, but I thought it trailed off at the end and I'm not sure how it's going to remain interesting going forward.

I didn't mean to come across like I disliked Season 2. As I said, I very much enjoyed it. The only thing it lacked was the originality of Season 1, but that's to be expected. My kids didn't like it quite as much because Eleven wasn't really part of the plot. (Her sub-plot was a distraction.)

So I have to ask... Legion, anyone??

Just watched the Pilot, and wow, mind blown.

Stumbled upon it by accident. I love Aubrey Plaza and heard mention of her involvement in that show.

Just one episode so far but I must say that was really special and different.

Back in 2015 when they filmed Mike and Dave, I had no idea who she was. Now I see Parks and Recreation reruns. Same with Ana Kendrick. Had no idea.

I think she's hilarious, not necessarily everybody's cup of tea but she makes me laugh.

Haven't seen Black Panther yet, does it live-up to the hype?
