Because he is the reason for the season. Our entire culture changed due to his presence. Look past his father and you have a pass first point guard that plays defense at 6'6''. Sure there are some good bigs in this draft, but Lonzo is rare.

Re: Would you do this ?
There's not one better PG in the draft. Not defensively, not playmaking wise, not rebounding wise, not block wise, not collapse the paint wise, not outlet pass wise...
Look at all ends of the ball, not just the unusual shot form. I don't get how it's not obvious what a rare talent he is.

Re: Would you do this ?
No way!
I wouldn't trade Lonzo for a top 3 pick.
I think that even though he has missed a lot of games, he's had a lot to do with our transformation this year.
And I can't wait to see him grow, learn the NBA PG position, and be the leader for this team for the future.
No one in this year's draft excites me about their potential the way Lonzo does.

I'd trade Zo for an established franchise player. KD, Kawhi, Curry...
That's not to say that he's on their level. But his value to this team isn't going to be replaced by another 19-year-old.

The Lakers want to get in transition and run and that fits with what Lonzo does. You trade him if you totally change the offensive scheme.

Re: Would you do this ?
Hell no to trading him. I mean if Michael Kidd Gilchrist can improve his shot then Lonzo can do it as well. Give me a break all this talk about getting rid of Lonzo and we haven’t even got passed his rookie season...unbelievable....

Hell no. He is a generational talent

Re: Would you do this ?
No.
What is the logic behind this? So that we can trade away a bona fide #2 who has changed the way we play and is a foundation of our team, to a lesser pick whom we have no idea how he'll turn out?
The question would have made more sense if it were asked if we would trade Ball for the #1 overall pick next year.

I don’t have a lot of love for Lonzo Ball but why would we trade him and set development back another year?

Re: Would you do this ?
Nobody on this team is untouchable IMHO. That is reserved for leaders of championship teams and even then the NBA has shown that they can be moved. So I don't buy into the idea that potential overshadows reality.
I'd trade anyone on this team to get better now. Fulfillment of "potential" is a iffy way to build a team by all by itself.
That said, Ball is a known entity and you can see his ceiling in a given range. The number 3 pick, who ever it is, isn't as known as Ball so no I wouldn't trade him for a pick. If we could get a top 3 PG for him straight up I would consider it.
Building only through the draft is rarely how championships teams are built. You typically have to move talent and promise for veteran leadership and stability to get the right mix.
For me, I wouldn't trade Ball or Kuzma until they get to the mid point of year 2. That's when you see how they adjust and work in the offseason and how they progress and adjust against competition.
To me, he's a top 3 NBA level distributer in the open floor and has proven to be a very good on ball and off ball defender. He's got gaps that experience will fill and some that will need some hard work. He seems to have a decent head on his shoulders (and that's a plus given his Dad) and he's got the respect of his teammates. That's better than the guy he replaced.

I think the real question is ...
Would anyone team in their right mind trade for Lonzo and Lavar for their top 3 pick?

Top3 pick also means a good chance at the #1/2 pick, then hell yes i would.
While Lonzo's initial arrival has caused a bit of a positive culture change, him being out and the Lakers still winning shows me that he's not as needed as we all initially believed. Ingram has done a nice job with greater usage and if the Lakers were to sign either PG13 or LBJ well they become the primary ballhandler/playmakers thus making Lonzo's a bit superflous as he doesnt bring plus outside shooting (at this time).
The bigs in the upcoming draft look nice and if we can snag one it'd fill the C position and not have the team need to spend big bucks on it.
Which of course leaves the PG position a bit of a gaping hole. As noted earlier having PG13/LBJ means theyre the main men so we dont n ecessarily need a high usage high calilber PG (hell maybe even plug in Ingram for spells). However i think signing quality PG/wing pieces is alot more cost economical than quality bigs, so i'd rather play my luck on finding some good stopgap guard who are decent to good defenders and more importantly excellent spot up/catch & shoot players.
Or Lonzo can come onto the court and make me eat my words, but right now he's in el busto scrub town. That level of shooting from a shooting is so utterly horrific and damaging to a team's offense hampering it from reaching its full potential..
