Is Collin Sexton still rising or falling?

Jaren Jackson Jr. of Michigan State has quietly checked off a lot of boxes on a star checklist. Jackson does a lot of things extremely well. He looks like he can shoot and can defend. He constantly makes plays for the Spartans, and his versatility usually induces butterflies from NBA scouts. Teams love the way he impacts a game and wonder what the ceiling could be under their development.

The 6-foot-11 giant with a 7-foot-4 wingspan can play either big man position and may even be able to defend on the perimeter. He doesn’t play like a go-to scorer by any means, but he plays like the ultimate safety valve. On defense, he plays like a catch-all rim protector. Scouts want to know if he can develop into a star in this league. Or maybe he will merely turn out to be a taller Marvin Williams with elite shot-blocking ability. If that’s the case, he’d end up as a star role player.

Wait, did I just describe Serge Ibaka? Either way, Jackson has impressed scouts in a year with Ayton and Bagley leading the big-man charge.

:o

Marvin Williams?

As a Hawks fan going into this draft I’m really scared...Jaren Jackson jr seems like a Marvin clone...there’s a Bagley I like but his first name is Marvin. Our brand new gm came from the Warriors and I wonder if he likens Trae to Curry.....big men are disappearing so where does that leave an Ayton?

If we end of with Marvin Williams :nonono: :nonono: :nonono: :nonono:

I think you're confused, Burd. This is the Luka thread. Or maybe I'm just ignorant.

I think Sexton is in a holding pattern. If he has a strong showing in the tournament, SEC or otherwise, could rise.

I need a break down:
Who do we take if we have picks in the following ranges:
1-3
4-6
7-9

Young's struggles shouldn't drop him off folks' boards, it should just cause folks to actually start thinking about the translatability of him once he gets to the league where folks will gameplan to stop him.

Huh? You don't think folks are gameplanning to stop him now?

I think college-level coaching/personnel are woefully lacking when compared to the NBA. And I think calling it "woefully lacking" is an extreme understatement.

That's easy:

4-6: Porter
7-9: Sexton

There's now one guy who I'm hoping we don't take because he'll be carrying with him a completely irrational fanbase. I wonder who that is ...

It’s not about coaching competence. In Nba you just can’t play defense like that, because you would be punished every time. In this regard it will be easier for Young there. He will have more space too. His biggest problem will be, how he will shoot over bigger and faster defender in Nba.

That maybe but you can't really double and triple the PG in the nba without giving up easy buckets.

Dude....you need to chill. This isn't about you.
The assumption is if we had picks 1-3, he'd pick Ayton.
If the Hawks are picking 4-6, or 7-9 more than likely Luca is already off the board so he won't be there.

I hear you, macd. I'm suggesting that defensive schemes would be more complex in addition to there being more/better players defending him. But, don't take my word for it since I'm clearly an idiot.

Nah, it's totally about him and only him. If Michael Jordan were in this draft but he had this dude as a fan, I'd totally be rooting for us to pick Sam Bowie.

I admit that I have written maybe to many posts about Luka. But I’m sure I didn’t write anything that isn’t true. I never mentioned he’s new LeBron or something like that. And I tried to support my words with stats and videos. It looks that I wasn’t successful. ;)

P.s. I see some people here have fun, nice because I change my mind I won’t leave. ;)
