Yeah but more was expected out of us with Embiid than was expected out of the Jazz.

Voters also love the underdog, and with the way Mitchell is carrying his team on offense, that's what most people look at. I do believe Simmons will win it, but it will be real close mainly cause his lack of an outside shot.

Sorry, but it's crazy how much credit he's getting for 'carrying' the Jazz' offense. During this win streak he's shooting 41.1%, 41.1% from three; which is actually noticeably inflated by that one 40 point game he had. In the other 8 games he's shooting 36.9% and 34% from three...

That hard carry

If anyone is carrying the Jazz its Ingles. He is shooting lights out and covering Mitchells poor conversion.

Rain drop, drop top, Ben Simmons is starting to splat some 3 point shots.

I truly believe he'll be the best offensive player in the league someday. Add that to his already All-NBA level defense and sheesh. We are blessed gentlemen.

Probably saving it for a winning shot in the playoffs

the confidence and the arrogance ben simmons plays with is awesome. when he got the ball stolen by winslow and then proceeded to steal it back and lay it up. and he pounded thr rock on the floor and just let it sit there was hilarious.

If any of you have ESPN Insider and want to throw up a little bit, read their latest article "Drafting the Rising Stars Game by Future Potential".

Embiid goes first, so nothing surprising there. You'd think Simmons would get picked next, but they were sipping the Donovan Mitchell Kool-Aid so he went 2nd. So obviously, Simmons has to be the third pick right? RIGHT? nope

Mike Schmitz, in some strange attempt to defend his original wrong rankings, picked Brandon Ingram 3rd...over Ben Simmons...citing things like "greater physical upside" (wrong) and "skill potential" (even more wrong) and "ability to play four positions" (have they even watched Simmons this season?!).

Even Givony jokes that picking Simmons 4th is a bitter pill to swallow, followed up by saying "the jury is still out on Simmons' ability to contribute to winning." These guys are both clowns who are still basing opinions off their terrible college scouting reports.

I see their angle, but yeah they've really just talked themselves sideways. If we're talking just sort of raw potential, Ingram does have a lot of potential and could make several more leaps and become a really really good player if things break right, and Mitchell is already a pretty effortlessly good player on both ends of the court with a ton of room for growth. If everything goes perfect for either, they could easily be all-NBA players in 2-3 years.

The road to Simmons maximizing his potential is a longer and harder one, since he'll need the shot and the finishing in traffic etc. But those guys have always understated how powerful and fast Simmons is, and how much of an advantage that gives him--and how much extra potential it adds on. I honestly don't think we've ever seen a guy his size with his handle, vision, and athleticism, and I think guys like Schmitz just aren't seeing how much that lets Simmons do. I remember reading their original takes on Simmons and thinking to myself 'I know that Stephen A Smith and the rest of he clown car are hyping Simmons too much, but is the DX crew really not seeing how f'in fast and strong this kid is?' I think they bought into their roles of tempering expectations or being the anti-hype machine back then and have stuck to their guns cuz it's a more novel approach. We're probably the only ones who really care, right?

I really want to know what Simmons did to those guys.

Picking Ingram and Mitchell over him is one thing, but the "bitter pill" and the "contributes to winning" lines are the latest in a long line of oddly personal critiques of the guy. Like even if you don't like the guy, you're still picking him 4th. I don't see the same kind of negative statements about Tatum or other guys they took after him.

It's odd, there was definitely an undercurrent of anti-Simmons stuff going on at ESPN before he was drafted. Some of their college guys didn't like him for whatever reason as well.

It's quite strange for people who are so close to basketball who seem to be overly enamoured with players who are basically pure scorers. You'd expect that from casual fans, not from experts.

It's specifically Givony and Schmidt, who were at draft express/yahoo before joining espn with woj last year. Theyve been saying oddly personal stuff about the kid since he was in high school. My guess is he blew them off for an interview or something when he was 16.

So they haven't watched an NBA game this year. At least they admit it.
