Yeah, you're right. Fedor or Mir will take on Sonnen. Anyone else going to watch the card?

I'm certainly going to watch. You can just dvr it.

But it's not very deep and there's nothing that's gripping me. A few solid fights in Big Country-Meathead, Patricky-Campos 2, and McGeary-Nemkov. No standout intriguing fighter. Just good fighters who may or may not produce entertaining matches.

There's been threads I've made for Bellator that people also haven't found of interest. Some is brand/lack of name. Others is the talent and matchmaking dwindling.

Patricky just had a very honest interview with Bloody Elbow where he talks about how, while new management is more personable and pays better, he misses the tournaments, compelling match-ups, and thinks they should focus less on over the hill names and more on the prospects that built Bellator's name originally.

Not that anything would get lost in the translation or reflect confirmation bias but here is what Pitbull actually said:

"The new administration has really improved the feel in the arena and the production for TV. The shows are much bigger than before. The money is much higher, as well and although we aren’t always on the same page, it’s easier to talk to them. I liked the tournaments and wish they’d bring them back, but not on the previous format of one fight every month. One every two months, three at most, would be better."

"I would like them to promote me and my brother more, and I don’t get why they don’t, because in the end, it’s more their loss than ours if our star potential isn’t being maximized. Ratings are what drives the business. We’ll keep beating people up and getting our money anyway.
That said, I’ve noticed they’re doing lots of posts on social media of me for this fight, which is very good and a step in the right direction. I hope things only improve from there."

"I’d like to be fighting more. I want them to promote us more. I would love if Bellator establishes finish bonuses. Several promotions are doing it around the world already. I’ve heard about it being implemented here for a long time, but have yet to see it, so hopefully it’s done this year.

I want to see them signing new talent and boosting the weight classes, not just thinking about free agents from other big promotions, but getting those big name prospects and guys making their names on the regional circuit like so many of us who are Bellator’s foundation. To get more guys from Brazil, Russia, Japan… everywhere. If they’re good, they should be here. I have fighters on my team who would do great for Bellator and like them, there are others just waiting for an opportunity.

A big wish of mine would be to fight in Brazil again, so I hope they finally make their Brazilian debut this year. I’ve heard about it since the Bjorn days and I’m hopeful this time it can happen. Perhaps for my title fight, that would be awesome."

In other words, BRING BACK BJORN
Hi love, bye love, I will miss my love.

I'll be watching too. I like MMA, but not enough to invest all the time/money as it takes to follow UFC. I'm on the Bellator bandwagon and hope they do well.

I hope the do not solely focus on older, big names. A few is okay, but unless the fights are show stoppers, gotta ditch the high paid old guys and get some hungrier fighters on the cards.

So, it was pretty much what I said. I conceded he liked some things more and other things less. Didn't claim it was all inclusive.

I feel the same way, I'm not going to take the Chael-Rampage main event as a red flag, but they do have a lot of talented/in-their prime fighters and a good mix of up and comers. I feel that Lima has cemented his legitimacy as a top WW in MMA at this point.

Like yourself, I don't mind having the occasional fights with the veterans, but they can't become the focus of the product. It's good for MMA fighters if two companies were doing well, something similar to what might be the "Golden Age" of MMA" now a decade back.

I'll be tuning in to this card, it's not all that bad tbh. You have top fighters in their respective weight-classes, Pitbull is a top 15 LW in the world, and considering the lack of talent among LHWs, McGeary is a top 15 LHW. I still don't get why people think Mitrione is really good suddenly, but I guess he's a top HW depending on someone's standards, lol.

Mitrione has won his last 3 fights and 6 out of his last 8, but I hear ya.

Do you really consider him an elite heavyweight? He wouldn’t be a contender in the Ufc. That’s been proven.

I assumed you said it in response to me saying why people are thinking he’s good so suddenly. He is what he is at this point in his career.

Chael is better than I could have ever hoped doing commentary. He’s made for this. Him and Goldie have great chemistry.

Liam mcgeary is probably going to be out for awhile again, one can easily make a case that they could’ve thrown in the towel even

Mitrone looked really smooth on his feet. Nelson is just a great grappler.

We got a guy at our gym that wrestled HW at Purdue and trained with Matt and said he's just a bad grappler.

That Heather Hardy fight made that last PVZ fight look like Cyborg/Nunes. Where did they find her opponent? Jesus.

Yea I have a few mutual acquaintances with Meathead as well and have heard the exact same thing.

I just started watching later and fast-forwarded through the chick fight, as I normally do.

Sharp performances on the feet by the final 3 male winners. Patricky and Vadim were tremendously accurate. Patricky should get next 155 lb shot. Vadim switched it up and went to the leg too for the finish, so we got to see all the distance arsenal. I really think they could do an interesting 185 lb tourney for shot after Mousasi-Carvalho (what are they waiting for?). Got Tokov, Njokuani, Nemkov, Lovato, Salter, Ruth, Shlemenko, Young, and a couple major org vets to play with. Would be fun.

Mitrione deserved to win. No booing warranted. Those fatties were rooting for Roy because it gives them false hope they could do it too. But he got picked apart, and in round 3 not enough damage was done for a 10-8, and round 1 Roy got the takedown late and it was the same equation. Worried about Roy's post-fight life. He's a heavy bag.

I also thought Meathead won, gave him the first two rounds and Nelson the last one. It was a close fight to score though.

Tbh, I thought Nelson was going to win this fight. As others have mentioned, his grappling is a very underrated part of his game, maybe because he doesn’t elect to go with it as much. instead he continues to load up and search for that overhand right. He started out as a BJJ specialist, I guess when you go on a run where you just KO people while also realizing you have an iron chin, you abandon what you do best.

Despite Roy Nelson not evolving as a fighter, I still thought he was a more complete fighter than Mitrione. Even the new lay and pray Roy was well suited for a victory here.
