We "Don't" Want the Monk: The Malik Monk Thread

It's the opposite of what you are saying. You are talking about the 1990's and I'm discussing modern basketball.

I am talking about today. I would much rather have him on Curry than Thompson. He would have a 100% better chance to slow down someone his size than he would someone killing him in length. In the modern NBA it is about mismatches and he is terrible mismatched against any position but SG. If you are right and he can't guard a PG then we need to trade him now because it only gets worse as you move him to another position.

Wouldn't be the first or last time two people disagreed on something when it comes to sports. I guess maybe we will eventually see if Monk ever gets to play regular minutes.

Another silly thing in that article that’s more on topic is how Clifford continually try to use Lamb as a reason why Monk doesn’t play when it’s as easy as 1-2-3 to play Lamb at SF off the bench.

Sidenote: I had no idea that Lamb was leading the East in scoring off the bench.

I like Cliff but even I'm sick of the training camp excuse. Rick lobs it right over the plate.

Q: How much do you think it impeded Malik that he missed all the summer before training camp, with a sprained ankle?

A: I think that’s a big part of it. He did everything he could, but you’re not playing, you’re not getting the reps. It’s not the same (just watching and listening). He just didn’t get to work on the things individually that he wanted to. It’s about figuring out the NBA game. That’s what makes the summer league experience so important.

He then blamed Batum's season on it as well... it's almost March.

He cites teams with young guys that are "putting up numbers" because they're playing on bad teams. Well...

This team is just clueless when it comes to young talent. Sure, Malik isn't a starter yet, but either play him in Charlotte or play him in Greensboro; if it's the latter fine but on a team this bad it should be the former.

Watching the Rising Stars game I felt we robbed him of a fun opportunity. Most of the participants played on bad teams... like the Hornets. It's one thing to not play the young guys when you're winning, but that obviously isn't the case here. Speaking of Rising Stars, you guys know who our last rookie participant was?

MKG...in 2012. That's a 4, two 9s, an 11, and a Belinelli that were all quickly passed over for several players picked after them. The last to make it both years was Kemba. Not to mention our constant mishandling of the second round.

Yeah I'm off track but damn this team has been frustrating.

One thing all of those rookies have in common after MKG in 2012 is that they were drafted in the Clifford era. What a coincidence...or not.
