Devin Robinson

Post#1 » by payitforward » Sat Feb 10, 2018 3:41 am

Devin Robinson is killing it in the G League & should be with the team. Getting minutes.

Kid is shooting over 40% on 3s, over 57% on 2s, & 82% on FTs -- his TS% is over 62%.

The rest of what he does is ok too -- adequate rebounder, doesn't foul much, gets steals & blocks. Turnovers not great, but not bad either.

Of course, as a 2-way guy, he is unrestricted at the end of the year. So, if you bring the kid up, you'd better sign him to a regular contract. With options that let us control him for 3 years.

Our 2-way allows us to do that.

Assuming he gets a chance next year after Mike Scott leaves

http://stats.gleague.nba.com/player/#!/1628421/projections/

he's projected at 10-5-2-1-1 per36 on 46/32/75 shooting splits in the NBA. Has a +3.9 net rating in the g league this year.

I personally don't really see him as a NBA player on the wing, absolutely no off the dribble game at all, only drives right, has no ball handling ability or ability to handle in pick and rolls whatsoever. He does show promise as a small ball power forward though. Good shot blocker, great at switching out on the perimeter and guarding guards. Reminds me of Jerami Grant but a lights out 3pt shooter as well.

I'd like to see him play

When fans start talking as if they have a stake in the players and start saying things like "...let us control him for 3 years", is when I am more than happy to hip them back to the reality that there is no "us" that they are a part of.

You know what, that is so true. You are right. You & I are not actually part of the Washington Wizards. I'm sure my use of the term "us" must have indicated that I'd forgotten that fact -- even though it is so basic a fact, so simple a fact.

I'm really glad we have you around to point out problems like this. I mean "they"; I'm glad "they have you around..." -- i.e. RealGM.

You must mean "they can move on..." -- from us, presumably.

Meanwhile, poor Devin Robinson -- the putative subject of this thread -- is stuck in the G League because you won't bring him up!

edit: I meant "they won't bring him up." Or we won't. Or something....

...with the operative word being 'control'.

An actual NBA owner of a team would be wary of using such phrases as ' let us control him...,' when publicly discussing their plans for the future one of his/her players because it denotes the actual powerlessness of a given player in relationship to the owner, or anyone beneath him/her that actually has pull in the fate of a given player.

For you to use the term 'us' here, suggests that you are somehow part of those who actually have the power to control Robinson's destiny.

You are not. That's all.

Well, this turned pedantic very quickly...
I'm in favor of bringing Devin up, moving Oubre to backup 2, and leaving Meeks out in Chinatown.

You are right that I am not. But that's not all! There is much else I am not in control of.

Meanwhile, more to the point of this thread, the kid has had quite a good G-League season, & he's with the team for now.

What's at question is whether they sign him to the Wizards roster for next year. I hope they do.

I'm with you. Those numbers are real impressive; I hope he shows enough in practice to eventually get some meaningful PT so we see how his game translates at the highest level.

I also really want to see the guy from Pittsburgh on the court. I think they both add an element from an athleticism/skillset standpoint that we don't currently have in "our" bench players.

Alright enough of that.

Not big enough for an NBA 4, not quick enough or a good enough athlete to play the 3.

Poor guy, he's going to be reduced to traveling the world, learning other languages & cultures, while earning hundreds of thousands of dollars a year playing a kids' game. Gotta feel for him. :)

I thought it was like that, too, but was informed that if you weren't a big-name player in college, it's difficult to get a high-paying hoops contract over-seas. Most leagues have a low cap on the number of American players they can keep, and the pay is surprisingly low - for the most part. Still, seems like a cool opportunity if you're good at picking up languages.

Fair enough. Still... he's single, earning @$60K/year right out of college, probably investing most of it in the market & doing well. In Arizona, he'll probably meet some tech guys, put something in a start-up & become a billionaire by the time he's 30.

Then he'll buy the Washington Wizards about a dozen years from now -- & fire Ernie Grunfeld for cutting his 2-way contract! Finally, we'll be rid of Ernie!! Yay!! Hallelujah!!! Way to go, Mike!

That's all well and good, but it would ruin my plans of winning Powerball when it hits a billion and then buying the Wizards. Oh well, hopefully the team and world still exists in 12 years, and we're still posting here.
