sounds like he might be forcing his way out. if he's healthy now and won't come back, what else could that be about ?

It really does. It's just bizarre to me. They looked like a legit contender until he went down last playoffs. They just need a few tweaks as Parker/Ginobili fade away.

perhaps he feels like he wasn't really ready to come back yet, but was being pressured to, and that's how he got hurt the 2nd time. i mean they're 3rd in the west right now. they have no chance to get to 1st or 2nd but still. he could come back and you never know what could happen in the postseason. the fact that he won't probably means this isn't repairable.

According to Kawhi, he still feels discomfort in his quad. The Spurs are in the WQF almost every year with a bunch of spare parts that execute the system very well and before he got hurt, were pushing GS to the limit. Again, these 'leaks' about him wanting another star etc. reeks of a PR move that many organizations play before they began dangling a high profile player for a trade. His Uncle has strongly denied these rumors privately, and seems like a very straight shooter.

Do you think Charlotte would trade Willy for him?

I think Kawhi quietly approached the Spurs last summer and requested a trade. It's the same way Irving requested a trade the summer they won the title. We just never never knew about it at the time. It's probably why the Spurs tried to trade him to the Knicks for KP at the draft. Maybe Kawhi wants to be in a bigger market and not be in the same conference with the Warriors.

Kemba and MKG would make great Spurs, tbh.

 I was being sarcastic with Shamm because as we know people were against trading Willy for Kyrie... But yeah I though/think the Spurs would be a good candidate for Kemba if they wanted to go all in. He could play the Parker role to a T for Pop and Charlotte was able to craft an elite D around him so I'm sure the Spurs would just keep chugging along on that end as well... On the MKG front, I don't even think the Spurs could fix his broken jumper :-?

I know what you were doing.

In seriousness, a trade like

Kemba/Willy/MKG

For

Kawhi/Lauvergne

Might make some sense if the Hornets can grab Sexton in the draft.

On the Knicks front - Kawhi's a guy that you get and ask questions later, imo. I think I would move KP for him. Then the Spurs can tank next year and do that whole Twin Towers thing they did that one time.

Kawhi being a Jordan Brand guy might give him some more incentive to push for Charlotte too and he doesn't seem like the type to care about the bright lights.

If I'm SA, I'm asking for at least a 1st in addition to that package though with the leverage that you're the Spurs and can fix any relationship related issues going forward.... Kawhi is legitimately a MVP candidate when healthy and has shown he can be the best player on a championship team. Hard to give that up when you're getting a similarly aged worse player back and 2 flawed prospects.

I'm happy to include Charlotte's 2019 first round pick in this transaction.

And watch Popovich turn KP into a top 20 player all time, while Kawhi has nagging injuries for the rest of his career in NY? No thanks. Let's just let the Knicks tank the next 2 years, and build organically, rather than go for the next quick fix.

I would do it without a grab bag of assets attached. Just kp with filler. I understand some wouldn't do that.

For me, you have to pay both in 2019 and both have an injury history now. KP's upside might be where Kawhi is. Both are two way players. I would take the known piece.
