The dude was an enabled and entitled prick from the time he was in high school. His history here in Texas is well documented. To take the current event around his bi-polar admission and attribute it to being labeled a bust is incredibly short sighted and lacks perspective.
The author is looking for clicks. Maybe he should have looked deeper into the subject.

His actions and personality fit perfectly with the bipolar, and that manic high where one can be irritable and aggressive yet feel invincible, euphoric, impulsive, restless, will eventually spiral into lack of sleep which can sometimes result in paranoia, followed by eventual hopelessness, despair and immobilization. I suspected this might be the case with him watching it play out.
