2/23 Stars of the Game vs Suns

Post#1 » by mkwest » Sat Feb 24, 2018 4:17 am

New Orleans hung on to take one in overtime against the HEAT. As a result, the Clippers remain a game out of the 8th spot with 1 loss separating the 4th and the 9th seed in the West.

Detroit fell to Boston. The Clippers remain in the 12th and 14th spots for the draft.

Lou and Tobias get my votes, but Tyrone should get a contract ASAP. I want him to be the go-to counter for any "Jazz took Ingles from the Clippers and turned him into a star" shade.

Doc Not Deserving of Credit for Other People's Work

For what? In defense of Doc? It's not like Doc gets credit for finding 3 G-Leaguers who've contributed to this season all of sudden when he's shown a reluctance to give drafted rookies playing time or even a commitment to utilizing the D-League in the past. It's no coincidence that we've started reaping the benefits from the likes of Tyrone Wallace, C.J. Williams, Jamil Wilson, Sindarius Thornwell, and Jawun Evans as soon as Doc was relieved of his POBO duties.

Or should we recount the time Reggie Bullock, C.J. Wilcox, Brice Johnson, David Michineau, and Diamond Stone spent with the Clippers under Doc's watch? Doc couldn't even find NBA talent to fit his own schemes when it came to the likes of Josh Smith, Byron Mullens, Antawn Jamison, et al. He acquired Paul Pierce a season too late and chose Jared Cunningham over Joe Ingles despite having a desperate need for a wing player during his reign of terror, so Doc's malpractice not only included promoting malignant tumors but removing healthy newfound tissue as well.

Heck, I've even argued that he should have held out for Tobias Harris instead of Jared Dudley when he traded Eric Bledsoe. Dudley would be a category by himself for Doc's malfeasance. Not only did he mishandle the player by forcing him to play despite Jared telling him of his ongoing injury, but Doc subsequently included a first-round pick in order to dump him a season after acquiring him. Speaking of draft picks, his dismissal of them as a valued resource should have been grounds for his removal from office. Let's also not forget that he wanted to trade DeAndre Jordan for a Kevin Garnett who was on his last leg in the league before even officially taking the job with the Clippers and the only reason that particular disaster didn't happen was because the NBA intervened to save us from ourselves in that instance.

That's a level of incompetence truly reserved for the suckiest of the suck. So tell me again how Doc gets credit for the accomplishments of other people in the organization or how Wallace even makes up for missing out on Ingles? It's not like we still can't use both of them on this team, especially since it would help our playoff chances if Ingles was off Utah's roster and on ours instead.

It was not my intention to stir up all these Doc-related feelings. I simply meant that if someone takes a shot at us for letting go of Ingles, it would be very easy to say the same about the Jazz and Wallace. These things happen and hindsight is always 20/20. Also, it's a lot easier to take chances on a player like Ingles when you're rebuilding. I feel like I've said this a dozen times, either here or on other boards: we simply were not in the position to offer Ingles the sort of time he needed to develop into the player he is today. Even if we had signed him, he most likely would've been gone after the first season. His early numbers speak for themselves, not exactly a needle mover: https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/i/inglejo01.html

But this is literally the only issue where Doc gets any sort of credit from me, so please don't mistake me for one of his apologists.

Speaking Ingles

My apologies for being triggered, but I'm emotionally tied to the Clippers and the man basically ran the team into frustrating mediocrity year in and year out for the sake of his own ego and pocketbook. I get to another level of perturbation when fans who've witnessed his incompetence and malpractice first-hand continue to come to his defense for whatever reason despite claiming to be fans of the team first. It's even worse when I personally saw how a lot of his moves were doomed from the start or at least highly questionable when they were made.

Maybe Ingles would have moved on regardless since, as you pointed out, he wouldn't have produced enough early on to guarantee a roster spot, but then again, he was a talented player on a cheap contract, which the team desperately needed given Doc's constant fumbling with our salary cap. Even if Ingles was not projected to be some sort of star player, losing quality players for nothing was inexcusable for a man in charge of our personnel management who consistently failed at finding useful players for his own system.

By the way, you never struck me as a Doc apologist, which is why I found your post to be strange.

LOL

the Rivers Derangement Syndrome crowd is having a very bad w̵e̵e̵k̵ m̶o̶n̶t̶h̶ year
grasping at some very old straws

good point about Ingles--he didn't even score 10 ppg until this, his 4th year, for which he's being paid $14M
he's become a nice player but only a non-contender like the Jazz had the minutes to invest in his development

and yes, the brilliant Jazz also drafted and cut loose Ty Wallace, and whiffed bigtime on Trey Burke
