So did Prunty earn the head coaching job yet?

Prunty did a great job last game, riding with the hot hand Terry to close the game. Something that Kidd never seem to do. With that said, let's see how the season will look and evaluate Prunty from there.

Just wanted to note for Jimmy the Kid that Jason Kidd's house here has been sold!
Of course I think it was pretty empty the last few years anyway since Porschla and the children moved back to NYC.

Prunty hasn't earned anything yet. Is he better than Kidd? Sure. But that's a low bar.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Hiring Prunty would be the coaching equivalent of giving Snell big money. Yeah he's solid and better than the current options but you are screwing your future for a nin-difference maker

We don't know if Prunty is the best option going forward for the future. He may be or he may not be, but I'm not completely ruling him out. I mean, if he coaches this team to an Eastern Conference Finals, then he'd have a pretty damn good argument.

I'm not saying Prunty should get the job. I'm not saying he shouldn't. But those that just assume someone else would be better and there is no risk are foolish. Exactly how is it that someone else would have done a better job up to now ? LED have already shown a slow trigger. Be careful what you wish for.

My concern with keeping Prunty is that, even if Prunty proves totally competent, getting a new head coach this summer is probably our only chance to really transform this franchise into one that can take the next step to championship contenders.
We need a strong head coach with a strong vision for what a Giannis-led championship team should look like. I'm not convinced that's going to come from the FO guys we have now- it's going to have to come from the right outside hire at head coach- someone who can draw up the blueprints, or provide some guiding principles for Horst and the FO to follow.
We need someone transformative force injected into this franchise, and hiring a new head coach is the only way to get that, I think.
I see Prunty as more of a company man type as head coach- he'll do the best he can with what the GM gives him, but I don't see him driving us in a bold new direction. I worry that keeping Prunty would signify a "stay the course" attitude from this franchise, and that's not what we need.

i like prunty, i don't think he should be ruled out yet either, but i do think we can do better. he really hasn't done anything mind-blowing other than switch to playing normal defense (which every casual fan realized we should've done long ago).
i don't envy horst/the bucks ownership group making this next head coaching call. this has to be a home run.

Literally none of that makes sense. You better check out the chain of command. You are literally asking for another Kidd

Yeah, I wonder what their process is like for this coach search. Like, what kinds of questions will they be asking potential candidates? What are they looking for in a candidate, etc?
If I were them, I would ask candidates to detail what they envision a Giannis-led championship team should like. What kind of players, what kind of scheme. I want a coach with strong, specific ideas about that.
This FO is kind of in flux/inexperienced, and the new coach is going to have a big impact everywhere- from the FO/GM on down. The wrong guy could totally sink us (which makes me fear they'll stick with Prunty, just err on the cautious side).

You think we can do better how ? It's easy to bang out posts saying that. How can Prunty be better ? Be specific. Magically transform Wilson ? Wave a magic wand and create cap space ? If you really think about where we were compared to where we are right now, I'm confused on how much better someone could have done

Nah. All coaches are involved in FO stuff to some extent. Not all hands-on coaches are bad at their jobs, poisonous and disruptive like Kidd was. It could be (should be) a partnership between coach and FO anyway.
Within the framework of the Giannis window, I just see this as the only chance to inject the a real franchise needle-mover into the team. The only other chance we have for major transformation is if later on LED decides that we need to replace Horst- but that could come too late, so our big chance is probably this summer with the head coach. We need someone to help guide Horst.
If you;re arguing that a strong head coach is a gamble and we could get the wrong one, then I agree- it is a risk.

Prunty took over and immediately the team started winning games they were supposed to win. Coming out of the All Star break we go on the road and win a street fight against the best team in the East, with guys injured no less. And with a roster full of useless No.1 picks. Are you underwhelmed ? Not entertained ? Should we have won by 30 ? Should the uniforms have glitter and blinking neon lights ? What ?
We can do better ? Blah blah blah. Let's hope your boss doesn't have the same open ended mindset about your job.
How about we could do a hell of a lot worse and be stuck with the guy for 4 years. There's a damn good chance that happens. Just ask 30 other teams. For all we know Prunty is the next Popovich. But don't blame Prunty because we don't have David Robinson and Tim Duncan etc etc etc. IF you know he's not, tell me why. Tell me how. Don't just bang out ridiculous posts saying we can do better. Be better than that.

My biggest concern is that I want a coach who prizes 3-point shooting. I’d rather see Giannis shooting 30% from 3 than see him shooting 37% from the deep 2 area on the same volume. The 3 has more value in point production. Every time he catches at the 3-point line and then takes a step forward I die a little. I’m not sure Prunty is the guy to make this happen.

If I were you, I would put together that secret list of difference makers you have and contact 25 NBA teams. You could be rich.

I mean in the context of searching for a new coach. I think Prunty has done awesome so far. That said, you need to make projections when making these decisions

Would love to know what Prunty has done to be awesome outside of being a normal coach and not an ****.
