Re: Let's Talk About Mario
I think you guys manly have problem with "project" draftees. Isaac could be the next one to suffer. If your management does not have a patience for baby development, they should just draft the most nba ready draftees and not those with "maximum upside". Maximum upside is strategy for teams that are ready to throw away 2-3 years down the drain, and you clearly were never ready to do that. In that case its better to get people that can contribute immediately, and which immediately become a good trading chip for some already developed player. Projects are hard and not all off them pan out, but in general they command patience and readiness for some ugly or stupid basketball, until they develop.

mario with gordon on the floor
effective field goal: 39.7
true shooting: 41.7
usage: 13.1
field goal percentage: 35.9
mario with gordon off the floor
effective field goal: 56.6 (+17)
true shooting: 58.8 (+16)
usage: 20.0 (+7)
field goal percentage: 47.8 (+12)
discuss. weirdly I feel like his usage being upped 7 percent is the most telling stat for me.
Haven't most of his better games come when Gordon was out? He got to play with starters vs the bench. Interesting numbers though.

yea, i thought about that too. also could be the reason for the numbers.
my initial impression which made me look up the numbers was; when gordon's off the floor he kinda takes on his role in the lineup and starts doing similar stuff. as if there are only limited number of plays like that allowed in our offense and it becomes his turn to drive and create lol.

Re: Let's Talk About Mario
Every good game is making me feel like Sugar Honey Iced Tea....just when the game is starting to slow down for him is when we're likely to lose him. Although like others have said at decision time whether or not to pick up his option he wasn't playing nearly this well, so it's a bit unfair to judge in hindsight. I believe around that time some were wondering if he'll still be in the league.....suffice to say he's turned it around.... 0 to 100

He is 21 and sitting on bench and watching Jennings shooting 0-3 free trows, Watson 30% FG and Napier 33% FG won't help him develop. Or by watching Fournier getting killed on defense without any fear of being benched but if Mario does the same mistakes, game is over for him. Lebron, Batum and DD are just 3 last players who killed Fournier on defene in last 3 games
Damn

For one, Hezonja is really figuring out the NBA game, which is heavy on pick-and-roll sets. In fact, Hezonja leads all Magic players in field goal percentage (and effective FG percentage) in pick-and-roll situations when he is the primary ball-handler (58.8 percent).
More interesting, he ranks second in the entire league in pick-and-roll FG percentage among players who have appeared in at least 40 games and attempted at least 30 shots out of the pick-and-roll.
Hezonja also is the Magic’s second best spot-up shooter behind Evan Fournier. He’s shooting 47.3 percent from the floor in these situations.
Hezonja is so much more athletic, agile and active than most fours around the league. Most opponents have a really hard time keeping up with him, which explains why he’s shooting 77.8 percent (14-of-18) so far this season when he cuts to the basket. He’s eluding defenders with ease, giving him a clear path to the basket on many occasions.
With that said, Hezonja has become one of the league’s most dangerous outside shooters because of his range. He’s one of only 22 players in the NBA this season shooting 40 percent or higher from 25-29 feet out with at least 100 attempts from this distance.

Lol its so funny. In last few games, but especially vs Philly Mario is the onlyone that gets a shout out and respect on opponents boards. Even praise for his D. Even with his lower usage (minutes and touches) in this Philly game. Just worth mentioning how others see this team.

after our gms mistake and when he started to play well every other team NBA fan started drooling about possibility of getting such player for free and naturally everybody started to flirt with him and the idea
earlier they were just laughing at him same way all fans here did

I remembered watching the draft and cheering that philly took okafor and saying knowing we were getting either Porzingiz or hezonja. he still has a lot to show. the guy is going to be good! Superstar level..... probably not.... but he can be an integral piece to our future. we need to commit to these kid otherwise we let em go too soon before they are true contributors to this team.

Yeh Superstar probably not unless he radically improves his 3 and end of games shots and on general handles. Although often enough he is the most impactful player in 4th quarter. And he does have the mentality for it. But he is progressing fr sure. If he continues to improve i can see him be a 20 ppg player.

i pegged him as a 20 point scorer since we drafted him. as his skill set grows.... the guy is going to be hard contain. Excited to see what he can do.

Re: Let's Talk About Mario
If he keeps improving on little things and gets better control of his moves ( and that comes with years ) he'll be really good.
He is good friend with Bogdan from Kings and with Porzingis, i think their teams will offer him deal. Especially because Knicks did nothing positive with Porzingis and he showed frustration already.

Re: Let's Talk About Mario
Yeah, another team will get a really good young wing prospect. His production in February alone is reason enough to target him. Not many teams have caproom but most of the ones that have are rebuilding. Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, Sacramento and Brooklyn could all use a guy like him and will likely make offers.
Edit: Even that PnR number is highly intrigueing. At 23 years of age he's in the 85th percentile as a PnR ballhandler. At 6'8. He doesn't run a ton of plays like that (11% of his possessions according to NBA.com) but that's another factor.

When Mario is gone, I'll be ecstatic because he can take his false hopes somewhere else. I'll be missing him as much as I miss Elfrid... Zero, zip, nada.
