Will be interested to get the terms on this presumably one-year deal. He was headed to the Rangers until they saw his MRI and then wanted to rework the contract they had offered. His signing with the Jays also is pending a physical.

He was terrific in 2016. Unfortunately, the Cardinals worked him ragged and he wasn't the same in 2017. That's the theory from Cards fans anyways.

Deal guarantees $2m. Hard to know why he was less effective last year...fastball was just as good, but his K rate plummeted and his HR rate skyrocketed.

Worthwhile given that there aren't many good options available for that money. Decent chance he's about done, however.

a few of us on here were hoping the Jays signed him for cheap 2 years ago. If Shatkins had liked him before, should have made a run at him as he was way cheaper than some of the deals teams were giving out to relievers...would have helped the 2016 run for sure. Oh well, he's now older, but not asked to be the closer or the "Final Boss"..i guess he'll be more like our Sagat than M Bison in street fighter 2.

Would have been stoked for this a few years ago. As it is, I’m still optimistic, and particularly excited about being able to see the Jays on TV in Korea.

I can’t speak to what it actually does for a team’s bottom line, but the effect of having an Asian player on the team is legit in the player’s home country. Games on TV, hats and jerseys in the streets, etc.

4th member of the 2016 St Louis Cardinals brought onto the team this off-season/ST.
I hope this is a sign the Jays are moving towards the Cardinals way of building. The Cards have been the blueprint for success when it comes to retooling/rebuilding on the fly while maintaining competitiveness.

I was going to say that it appears Shapkins' master plan is to turn us into the 2017 St. Louis Cardinals.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

I don't know if picking up their scraps means building the same way they they did. But, hey, I like the guys we got from them at least, even if they're flawed, considering the low price. Now, go swap Donaldson and Stroman for Gyorko/Carpenter/Weaver and call it a day.

Another good signing.

Now time to sign Rosenthal to a incentive laden deal. Keep the Cardinals theme going.

I like it. If he makes the team it makes our bullpen that much better.

Would've liked to to keep Zeke. But I guess there's a pretty big crunch in the OF right now.

I like the signing, especially as a backup in case we move Osuna in a big rebuild. Osuna is about to get real expensive in his last couple arb years and is going to get even more as FA. Only makes sign to keep him if you're going to be competitive.

Interested to see if this has any attendance implications.

I was hoping to see a Korean on the Jays in my lifetime, so that's a relief... (pitcher)

Rangers sign Tim Lincecum instead. Both guys are expected to be late inning guys. Both have red flags but high ceiling.

Lincecum is a complete coin toss kind of signing. Atleast old man Oh has had recent success. Dominant success.
