GT - Hornets @ Sixers 03-02 - 7pm

Post#1 » by Radu_Hornets » Thu Mar 1, 2018 1:14 pm

Hello everyone :D ,

I'll fly from Paris this afternoon and I'll be attending the game in Philly tomorrow. My first nba game ever, you can't imagine how exited I am haha ! So I decided I'll open the thread for the occasion hehe.

I am a Hornet fan for almost 10 years now. I never missed a game thanks to the league pass (yeah, not even a game from the 7-59 season I missed haha)

Do one of you guys also be there? And, do you have any recommandation for the game? How early to go? etc? As a european, that's a bit new to me haha !

Let's show Embiid how we play !

That's awesome that you're getting to attend the game. Why did you choose this game in Philly as your first NBA game? Did you have any plans to maybe come to Charlotte for a game instead? Have fun.

Sounds like fun. Haven't been inside the Philly arena but in most games you don't need to be too early. I normally eat somewhere else fun before the game and then head over. I would give myself extra time if I wanted to eat arena food or get beer. Philly's arena is a bit far away from any of the cool downtown stuff that I normally go to, so I don't have any specific recommendations there.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

It was a present from my girlfriend :) and she knew of course about my Hornets obsession haha ! So while she offered me a trip to New York (never been there), she decided to offer me also the game in philky because our team plays there during the 9days of our stay :)

If we win this one, we can stay on life support with our playoff hopes. We did well vs. the Wizards in their second half of a back to back with the Cavs recently, the Sixers play the Cavs tonight so there is hope. I hope you have fun Radu_Hornets, maybe you will be a good luck charm! :)

NY is definitely a cool city ... and other parts of the state aren't bad either. I think that I've been to at least 75% of the various NBA cities, but I've only been in one other arena, Boston. It really puts the Hive to shame.

Game wise ... is Embiid playing full minutes in back to backs yet?

He’s been cleared to play back-to-backs since the start of February.

What catch said but he took a couple of hard falls tonight in Cleveland so I wouldn't be surprised if he sits tomorrow night or plays limited minutes at the very least but then again with our luck he'll play the whole game!

The Heat had a horrible home loss to the Lakers. That team may be just bipolar enough to leave the playoff door cracked for us.

I live less than an hour away from Philly and was considering going to this game with my wife. There is an Xfinity Live place right next to the arena with several bars and restaurants inside.

Philly crowds get a little rowdy and they’ll be extra cocky because they beat the Cavs last night. You should be ok if you’re wearing hornets stuff but there’s a decent chance you’re heckled.

I saw the Hornets play in Brooklyn a few years back and that was an awesome experience. Amazing arena and all of the food we had was really good too. Plus that arena is surrounded by anything you want.

I’ll let you know if I get tickets for tonight!

Didn't you used to live in Spartanburg County (SC) at some point when we were still the Bobcats?

Just a fair warning, I was once at a Phillies/Marlins game where this 10 year old Marlins fan was holding up a sign, and some guy came down from the top of the section, took the sign and ripped it in half. I'm pretty sure the guy got kicked out but I still felt bad for the kid lol.

I agree that you're probably fine with the Jersey (may get a few comments, but it's not like it's an Eagles game or anything. Be sure to find an usher and complain if you think anyone crosses a line.) the sign may be pushing it though, and I don't want your first NBA game (or Philadelphia) experience to be a negative one. Definitely don't hold it up in the middle of the game and block people's view.

Hope you have a good time and no Philadelphian does anything stupid! It'll probably be a sell out and the crowds have generally been awesome. Wish I was going tonight.

Well I attended a number of Sixers game prior to Allstar week and I did not get the sense that opposing fans were heckled. There was a girl sitting close to me that was holding up a Wade sign and no one really cared. In fact, it was pretty much civil all the time. The only occasion was when someone wearing a Tom Brady jersey was pretty much forced to take it off lol. But then again, this is very much an outlier.

If you plan to go to the game by subway, I suggest you to buy another ticket in advance so that you don't have to line up in front of the vending machine. Also, even though it is quite crowdy at the subway station, it all went very well!

Wish you a good time in Philly! As a European myself it is always a special occasion to attend a NBA game, coming from afar.

This is a huge game and will go a long way in shaping my opinion of how viable a run for the playoffs really is.

Clifford arguing with the ref over something because he doesn't understand Philly's non stone age offense!
