It's kind of crazy that while I've never been super high on Young, it's during the worst stretch of his college career have I become more of a fan. Not getting much help from his team mates and having no one else that can score on their own just means teams are building their defense around containing him. That might be fine in college but in the NBA where most players can make lay ups, shoot and move the ball without you, he's going to have less defensive pressure and signficantly more spacing with a longer 3PT line.

I'm still concerned about his defensive abilities and I've pretty much given up on projecting him to be anymore than being mediocre on that end of the court but his offense far outweighs his weakness on defense in a similar way to great offensive PG's like Curry and Nash.

Yeah, I think he can be somewhat like those guys. I think he's a great shooter and passer - little doubt in my mind he can be very good at both in the NBA. HIs turnovers are probably his biggest drawback right now, but his teammates are bad, so I am not sure how many of those are because of that....I know some of them are because of the constant defensive pressure. Have you watched one of their games?

You know how at the end of games when a team is down and they are trying to force a turnover and two guys bottle up a guy? It's kind of like that for him the whole game.

I've watched only a handful full games that's on Youtube and they aren't good to watch just because the rest of the team is kinda trash outside of Young. I agree his turnovers are bad but that's the function of having the ball in your hand so much and trying to put people in positions to score. He's forced passes that weren't there and he's gotten trapped a few times not reading the defense fast enough but again, that's a function of being the go-to guy for anything offense. I anticipate when he has less pressure defensively by having better, more offensively capable team mates, those turnovers will drop. I also expect he'll have a horrid start to his NBA career because of his size and also the level of NBA defense but once he figures it out, he'll see that there's a lot more spacing available and he'll be able to operate at that high level we saw in the first half of his college season.

He didn't leave himself any wiggle room there. I don't see why he'd come out with such an unequivocal statement if there were recordings since it would all get out eventually

I'm no lawyer but I'd imagine a defamation case would be in order should what Miller say be true.

He did mention the one time he was approached about payment for a player he didn't agree to it and that player signed elsewhere. I'm guessing this is the conversation on the wiretaps (because the wiretaps from FBI apparently were from June-Sept 17) and the person approaching him maybe did ask for $100K for the player, but perhaps it wasn't Ayton, and espn just assumed it was and went with it.

But in 2017 AZ was also recruiting Brian Bowen, who ended up signing at Louisville in June 2017, and...

Pitino was fired on Oct. 16 in the wake of the F.B.I's probe into college basketball, which uncovered bribery, wire fraud and corruption across many of the nation's top programs. A man referred to in the F.B.I. complaint as "Coach-2"—which is believed to be Pitino—is accused of funneling $100,000 from Adidas to secure the commitment of Brian Bowen.

That is kind of speculation on my part, but there may be a conversation of someone asking him for payment of $100K well after Ayton signed (since Ayton signed almost a year before any FBI wiretaps were in place), and it was Bowen and Miller said no to such a payment.

Crowd gave Miller plenty of support tonight..

Wow, did anyone the end of the Virginia/Louisville game? That might be the craziest finish I've ever seen in a game. I mean I've seen some crazy finishes...Miami/Spurs, Warrior/Cavs and many others. This one was unbelievable.

Go to about 2:30 or a little before if you want to see. 5 pt game with 9 seconds left.

Then after a 3 by Virginia and two free throws by Louisville, Virginia down 4 with .9 seconds left and got fouled on a 3 that missed...so he sinks the first two free throws and was going to intentionally miss the third but Virginia had a lane violation, so Louisville got the ball up to with .9 seconds left and just had to inbound the ball...and...

The wiretap started after Bowen committed to Louisville. Plus Trier and Alkins has already announced their return to college. This whole thing will eventually come crashing down on ESPN. For the time being, until the wiretaps are heard, Schlabach will be safe only b/c he can’t be proven wrong. The fact that they changed the date of the phone conversation to 2016 before the wire tap began was just incredible to me. They had that up for a week before changing it for the third time today.

Yes, I had read that Bowen committed to Louisville on June 5th and knew the wiretaps started like on the 19th or something, but this story, since the $100K was mentioned as a key reason Pitino went down, made me think this is the only thing that made some sort of sense if Schlaback's source's stuff had anything right about it, was that Miller did get asked if he would get that amount of money, and refused, and then they moved on and went to Pitino. If the source mentioned it, he may have just assumed wiretaps were in place when that conversation took place, not remembering actual dates of everything. The FBI obviously has evidence that Pitino funneled $100K to someone for Bowen even though he signed before the wiretaps were apparently in place. That's just the only thing that makes some sort of sense.

I don't think the wiretaps will ever be heard by the public, so the guy can stick by his story and no one can prove he was wrong even though it's fairly evident. ESPN probably doesn't need to worry too much about legal problems since Disney probably has a pretty strong legal team. It is amazing being vested in a team to see first hand how much a likely bogus media report can sway and impact things in an enormous way.

Booker coming down on anyone's ass for not being interested in defense? LOL

Booker will not let a rookie come in and be apathetic on either side of the floor, regardless of his defensive prowess.

Well if that's the case, hopefully he can also change his apathetic approach to defense.

Young seems to be falling in. That's good. I can see it now. We draft Ayton at 1-3, then Young falls to 7-8 so we package our 12 and 13 picks (Miami and Milwaukee) along with our top second round pick and move up and draft Young.

Jeez, JJJ can't stay on the court right now. 3 fouls in only 11 minutes so far.

edit: Fouled out in 16 minutes with 7 points, 3 rebounds, 2 blocks on 75/0/100. Ethan Happ was giving him trouble from what I saw.

12 & 13? I doubt they end up that high. Here i thought we were lucky when i saw Tankathon have us getting both picks at 15 & 16.

And i doubt that 12/13 could get us a high enough pick to get Young. At 15/16 i dont think i would even bother trying to trade up, just hope that the 2 guys im interested are there.

1st pick - DeAndre Ayton
2nd pick - Robert Williams
3rd pick - Shai Gilgeous-Alexander

I would consider that a win.

We get an absolute damn near sure fire future all-star in Ayton to play PF, grab an undersized yet defensive juggernaut C in Williams, and a very tall/long defensive PG in Shai.

Payton/Shai/Ulis
Booker/Daniels/Reed
Jackson/Warren/Dudley
Ayton/Chriss/Williams
Bender/Williams/Chandler

Looked a step slow guarding man-to-man... How many of this kid's blocks are recovery blocks??

That's a typical Jaren Jackson game I'm hesitant on his risk-reward profile given his upside is a Serge Ibaka type (14-8-2) who has never been an All-Star. If a team drafts him top 5 I think they have to believe he's better than a 4th option on offense in the Michigan State system.

I have to add on to this because i forgot someone that im also highly interested in................. Mitchell Robinson!!!

If we decide to re-sign Payton, Robinson should be our go to guy with our 3rd 1st round pick. I mean we would have Payton/Knight/Ulis all at PG, so adding yet another PG prospect might not be what is needed, but grabbing a former 5 star recruit who many thought was just as great of a prospect big man as Ayton/Bamba/Carter would be a very smart move.

This sounds so unfair. It's not like he doesn't try. He does get lost often, but he fights through screens all the time, and the team defense is so poor it is hard to gauge personal capability through stats, which I feel you are doing here.

It's not like his opponents are driving past him like with Daniels. Oh, and he also has to carry the whole offensive load most of the time.

Last time we traded up to the 7-8 spot, it ended up a disaster.

He definitely tries on occasion, but I think it's often just overlooked where others are complained about. Chriss, for example, blocks a lot of shots, so he tries on occasion as well, even though he is out of position sometimes. He doesn't rank nearly as low as Booker does in stuff like DRPM, where Book ranks last in starting shooting guards, and like 104th in all of them.

I'm just hoping he improves, but I'd find it a bit silly for him to call out others for defense all things considered.

Ok, i know i just wrote about grabbing Williams and Alexander, but the more i thought about it, this would be my dream draft that is very very realistic:

Image

1. Suns snag Ayton in the top 3. (Tankathon has him @ #3)
2. Sexton falls as i expect him to, Suns grab him with the Miami pick. (Tankathon has him @ #12)
3. Suns then make a reach and grab Mitchell with the Bucks pick. (Tankathon has him @ #23)
4. With the 3rd pick in the 2nd round Suns grab McCoy. (Tankathon has him @ #33)

I think McDonough will like Khyri Thomas.

6'10 wingspan, 3+D complimentary guard, has the experience and body to be NBA ready (Brogdan / Ntilikina type).

I like size and work ethic as key criteria outside the top 10 as that what seems to take underrated talent to the elite level like Butler, Leonard, Giannis, Bledsoe, Booker, Brogdon, Donovan etc...

So next year is the first year AGAIN in our rebuilding? ****.

We need to put some serious NBA ready players on the court next season, fight to win for at least one time in this decade.

Four rookies...oh my...

Return to Phoenix Suns
