I'd also hire their coach...looks like he can get shots for stretch bigs and we can't.

But seriously, Porter looks good for a re-classified High School kid.

Niko and Bobby both have no trouble getting shots. It's just Lauri that can't do it. So it seems more like the player than the system.

It seems like we're most likely picking #7.
Brooklyn will gladly take wins from us, but I don't see the other 6 teams winning significantly more than us. We'll bump into some wins ourselves.

Assuming 1-6 goes the expected Ayton, Doncic, JJJ, Porter, Bagley, Bamba...

Would you rather

A) Draft Trae Young
B) Pick from the lower tiers....Carter, Bridges, Knox, Sexton?

Wasserman's updated Big Board.....

Interesting rankings to me.

Top 10

10 Wendell Carter
9 Kevin Knox
8 Marvin Bagley
7 Mohamed Bamba
6 Mikal Bridges
5 Trae Young
4 Michael Porter
3 Jaren Jackson
2 Deandre Ayton
1 Luka Doncic

If we end up at 6 and this is how it goes who do you take? Mikal, Bamba or Bagley?

Bagley. Steal of the draft

I think the worst we pick is 7, but end up 6 or 5. BRK will pass us-and we just have to have one other team win a few more games.

B). Carter or Bridges would be good. then Knox (I wasn't that high on him because he is so raw, but he's been impressive as the season has gone on). Sexton is interesting but I think there are several players not on that board that I would take before him.

Someone is going to gamble on Trae Young so one of those other tier one guys will be there at 7.

Someone is going to gamble on Trae Young unless he really stinks up the rest of season so one of those other tier one guys will be there at 7.

IDK, man. His stock seems to be plummeting right now and there are some other guys on the rise. I could see Young falling down to 8 or 9 easily by the draft. Don't forget he doesn't measure out that well and he isn't very athletic so he isn't going to improve his lot at workouts or the combine.

That is a nightmare scenario for me so I'm gonna pretend we get 6 or higher until it doesn't happen then. Would be a comolete waste of a season to get not get one of those 6.

I'm looking to trade down, if no offer interests me take BPA (Young)... Mikal Bridges is closing the gap. I'm just praying we get #7 at worst, this game vs DAL will be hhhuuuggee.

My rankings at this point:

1) Ayton
2) JJJ
3) Bagley
4) Porter
5) Doncic

I would be thrilled with any of these 5. I love the versatility that JJJ/Bagley offer. The more I see of JJJ the more convinced I am he’s going to be a great pro.

I think after these 5 it gets tough and there is a clear drop off depending on how you feel about Young/Bamba/Carter. I think this draft is top heavy with 6 impact players which is why I believe it’s imperative we secure a pick in the top 5.

6) Bamba
7) Carter
8) Young

I am not high on Young at all. Between Bamba & Carter is mostly preference for many. I buy into’s Bamba’s elite measurables and DPOY type anchoring next to Lauri. However, I am not convinced he will ever offer much on the offensive end.

If he's practicing, and close to playing, his back must be very close to 100% recovered.

Carter would not be a complete waste of a pick. He'll probably have a long career as an average NBA big. He has no glaring faults. And no game changing attributes either. He'd be a good, complimentary player. Bamba on the other hand has one elite, potentially game changing skill...shot blocking. He has great timing. Freakish length. He's not uncoordinated. He's a kid. He is still growing into his body. He has a fairly decent stroke from outside. Give him a year or two under Fred the shot Doctor and he could become an actual outside threat to keep defenses honest. With some of the big men we will be facing over the next decade in the East I would have to give Bamba my pick. His body can easily add 20 pounds of muscle before he finishes his rookie contract. He is more of a gamble than Carter. But he's also a potential game changer. Lauri is going to give us 20/10 (that's being conservative). Bamba only has to protect the rim, rebound, make put backs and an occasional outside shot to keep defenses honest. Any points he gets are gravy. But by the time he's 22 or 23 years old he could dominate the paint defensively. I don't see Carter dominating in any aspect of his game.

From that second tier Bamba every day, twice on sunday.

I see it like this:
Any of this and i am really happy.

Ayton
Doncic
JJJ
Bamba

Bagley: i like, but he would not be a great fit with Lauri.
Porter: really scares me, back issues, never played, i hope somebody else picks him before us.
Young: I don't trust too much, i hope somebody else picks him before us.
Bridges: I trust him to be a good player for years. I may be willing to trade down for him if none of the top four-five are available.
Carter: clearly below the others.

Mikal keeps growing on me. Despite being a junior, seems like the type that is going to keep improving imo.

Looking at Projections for the 2019 NBA Draft it looks to me that next year's draft will be heavily loaded with wings and "4"s. Not too many pure "5 s" look to be in the upper echelon of the Draft. So if we can get a legitimate "5" in this draft we have to grab him. If we get incredible luck we nab Ayton or JJJ. If we land 3-6 we grab Bamba or Bagley (even though he is more of a "4"). If we land at 8 or worse I suppose we choose between Carter or Bridges (or Porter if he slips due to lingering injury concerns). The quantity and quality of SGs and SFs coming out next year is impressive. Only Bol Bol looks to be a "5" potential draftee in the top 20 next year. So lets hope for a good lottery outcome and get our future "5" in this Draft.
