I've seen almost every minute of Simmons' play this year and it's hard to believe you have if you're saying this. Most of the time his post touches go nowhere and they just keep working the ball around, and he also turns the ball over quite a bit or takes bad shots when he forces the issue. And no those shots absolutely do not 'go in usually' when he takes them--you don't have to watch Simmons long to see he sometimes forces things and takes weird shots that don't have much hope of going in. His percentages are pretty high because he gets a lot of dunks and because he shoots well off drives going hard to his left or right--but he's shooting something like 34% on shots he creates himself from 3-12 ft this year, and that's not counting TOs.

I love Simmons and have a ton of faith in his progress but his instincts and skills for NBA post play aren't quite there yet (and the Sixers clearly give him many of those touches every night). I think it should be a part of his game eventually but the Sixers would be in trouble if they switched to an offense centered on Simmons posting up 20 times a game right now.

Well you can surely admit Simmons has a better hook shot than Embiid.
And without Simmons' post play in the 3rd quarter, no chance whatsoever of Philly beating Cleveland last night.

Huge sixers fan and I tend to agree with your original statement. Ben's post game has gotten much better here since the new year.

Too the Sixers fans out there , why don’t they give Ben license to shot the 3 during blow outs ,, don’t get it ,, are they trying to protect his percentages ??

He’ll work on it during the offseason - like McConnell did last summer.

Surely shooting during a game is far better practice than hitting 3s in a gym ( I hit the golf ball straight at the driving range ,, on the course I’m **** !!)

Sure but he's also got like 50 lbs less of muscle so he can't get himself in hook shot position often. Redick's probably got a much better hook shot than either of them but he's not gonna get a clean one off almost ever.

I'm not sure if you've been watching tonight but they've been posting him a lot with Embiid in foul trouble and it's going nowhere. (I agree he was rolling in CLE but you can't judge something based on when a guy is playing at his very best.)

What would possibly be the benefit in that? He shoots hundreds of them per week in practice, and it's not like having him do them in what's technically a game somehow trains his muscles better. More importantly Ben is trying to be good now--it's stupid to force him to take bad shots and make bad decisions instead of doing what he does. He's so good at dribbling and passing that he can just drive and make something happen instead of chucking up a shot he's not likely to make.

Simmons put up 15/8/6 in a b2b win, not bad.

15/9/6 I believe, but hey, it's just one board, lol. The man is consistent, and the defense he plays is the icing.

Even better! Definitely, is it too early to call him an elite defender, I don’t think so.

4th in DBPM, 3rd in defensive win shares so far. Watching him play, it's rare for a rookie to have the impact on defense he does. As good as Mitchell has been (watching the Jazz now) Simmons is clearly the best overall rookie in the NBA. I hope voters remember that defense counts too.

He’s had 10 half court attempts this season, so definitely doesn’t care about his percentages. That’s about as many as KD has had in his career!

You can't really be concerned about your percentages if you don't have one though. You have to make one first before you can be concerned about lowering it.

So curious who people think the all rookie team will be:

As we come down the stretch I’ve got:

Mitchell
Simmons
Markkannen
Kuzma
Tatum

Bogdanovich and Smith knocking on the door.

Jackson coming in hot for Kuzma’s spot. Would be close to overtaking him at this point.

So much better than last year. What a sad bunch that was.
