Not even close to warm. He took over when buzz left and only had 7 guys. From then on they improved every year, slowly but improved. This is a set back year but the roster is still a bunch of freshman and sophomores with rowsey being the only contributing SR.

I would have to say Marquette looks pretty good for next year. They won't have two small gunners at guards, and they have some very promising younger players. Obviously Howard and Hauser, but Anim looks like a player as do big men John and Froling. Then you've got Joey Hauser coming in, but I don't know if he'll contribute much next year. Nevertheless, he looks like a Sam Hauser clone and might turn out longer than Sam.
I think Marquette could be markedly better next year.

Everybody that has seen Joey play insists he's still better than this year's Sam. And Sam was pretty damn good this year. If you have those 2 as solid high BBIQ players, with scoring from Howard and rebounding from John, they will be really tough.

I saw Joey in the state tournament. Looks like a very promising player. He is two inches taller than Sam at the same age/grade, so as Sam has grown about two inches in the last two years, Joey could end up around 6'10. Then there would be comparisons to Henry Ellenson.
Incidentally, I'm sorry I didn't see the high school game last year in La Crosse between SP and La Crosse Central with Kobe King. I hear Hauser was still sort of recovering from an ankle injury at the time, nevertheless Central won and King had a huge game.
Which is why I wish schools could choose to play up a division if they wanted to. It would have been very interesting to see those two schools play each other in the Div 1 bracket.

Unless there is a newer rule that has changed, you definitely can.

My SR year, our girls team won the D2 championship. The next year, they went up and up won the D1 championship.

Schools don't normally do it because (in my understanding) you can't go back down the next year, you are stuck in the level you play up to.

I think it's all enrollment based. They just tried to introduce a rule where schools around larger cities would move up but it was rejected.

It is enrollment based, yes.

But what I'm saying is that my HS girls team played in D2 and won it. The following year (because they returned the entire starting five) they decided to play up to D1; and won.

Oh man. I wouldn't be shocked if St John's beat MU 1st round. Badgers playing a little better. I'd probably go under as play the % that MU gets 1 at best and Maryland knocks off UW.

Haha that was a good one, right?

I'd like to go over, thinking that Marquette could be hot and win two on their own. Definitely don't think UW wins two, but they've been pretty good the past few weeks.

If I was a betting man (and I am), assuming the line was even or close, I'd go under.

You forgot Cain and Elliot, two young, long, and defensive minded wings.

If the defense sucks yet again next year with Anim, Cain, and Elliot all getting significant minutes, Wojo is flat out of excuses.

Buzz and VT knocked off Duke tonight. Huge win for them. Wow. Probably got away with a few down the stretch, but man that defense was tight.

Barring injuries to key players, Marquette should easily win 20+ games next year. Watching Rowsey and Howard play at the same time as much as they did had to hurt the team's def. Plus, despite the fact they're both tremendous shooters, I've also been very critical of their gunning.
Hauser was shut out many times during the season because those guys, Rowsey and Howard, were hunting their shots. And other Marquette players with promise are hurt worse by not getting the ball at all or rarely.
But next year playing a bigger team and not having two chuckers playing at the same time so often should benefit both the off. and def.

If they win the last game and one in the big east tourney I’m thinking the comittee will get them in due to the way they play. Could be an upset team and story line they want to pursue.

The committee has to justify their picks, especially Last Four In and First Four Out. They aren’t going to get up there and say they would make a good story as justification.

Bracket Matrix has them as the 4th Next Four Out team. They need a little help.

Shame they could have played themselves out of the tourney after the last month. Could have made a nice run if they could get hot from the field for a few games in a row.

As much as people rag on him, Rowsey may have just saved their season.

Right now they would play DePaul. I think if they lose, they’re done. Next would be Nova, and if they win that they’re a lock.

Their ceiling is waaaaay above there floor. I don't think they are a good tourney team but I would hate to be a top seed having to play them in round two. No idea when they catch fire.

Return to Milwaukee Bucks
