Well let's just be glad Ed Pickney is okay. Got shot by a sniper mid-play.

I have never cared if you think it’s stupid to commit that foul in that situation here, but I do think it is gymnastics to make it seem these two hits are that different. So to me this is only going to look like fans calling this “cheap” or whatever stuff have said in this thread because it’s Rubio. I’d be far more angry about getting taken out from behind going up for a shot than being checked and sliding into the front row.
They weren't the same. Teague did go after Crowder like he was going to shoulder block him but used his right hand to stop the shot from going up, sure it was a hard foul and he did bump/push him a bit like he did with Rubio.
The flagrant on Rubio wasn't stopping anything, Rubio had the ball near the sideline with Teague and 3 other Timberwolves back on defense so he wasn't stopping an easy basket. The flagrant on Crowder at least was to stop a shot, Rubio's flagrant wasn't stopping anything.
Right that doesn’t make it any less unsportsmanlike. Making a play for the ball once you have decided to hit someone like that does not make it anymore or less dirty. If Teague make a play at the ball people aren’t going to think it is as dirty? Patrick Beverley has made dirty plays on Russell Westbrook where he went for the ball. I don’t believe that it changes how anyone reacts to the Rubio play. The crowder play looks more dangerous to me. Teague wanting to stop his shot from going up after committing to that hit shouldn’t be treated any different. He didn’t push him a bit like he did Rubio, he pushed him probably harder than he did Rubio considering the size difference.

The Crowder play to me looks like a small player running faster then the SF/PF to catch up, puts his left arm to brace impact while he swipes at the ball, honestly that's the only way for Teague to stop the play unless you want Teague to completely wrap him up and to me, that's way more dangerous for both players going the speed they were going. Teague's foul on Rubio's was just a cheap shot that he just couldn't wait for a situation to just to take a hard foul on him, that's the part that intrigues me, why at that point did he decide he couldn't wait any longer when he had opportunities earlier and probably would have had opportunities later.
Even if you think he was taking a cheap shot at both, one he waited to take the hit stopping a play, the other he just blatantly went after someone near the sidelines. It's a huge difference to me even if the "push" looks to be somewhat the same.

Teague also slapped Bjelly in the face for no reason while playing for Atlanta. Injury threatening? Sure not. Stupid and indefensible attitude? For sure.

Right, a couple years ago. Bjelica also had Afflalo take a swing at him after giving Afflalo push/shot in the back going for a rebound, Afflalo too offense, gave a shove back and then swung on him. There are players in the basketball who do little things that keep building up till finally someone blows up. Teague and Afflalo need to be more professional about that but that doesn't mean there weren't reasons for the situations, these things usually don't just come out of thin air.
I think this latest situation will put a spotlight on Teague for people to watch him more closely now.

Absolutely in no way is that Crowder foul initiated as a basketball play. Wrapping up the player or pushing them to the ground in this situation is a lot more dangers than what happened to Rubio. Teague needing to slap down to stop the ball is after the initial contact and looks more like he is just trying to put him on the ground because he wasn’t strong enough to knock him down in the first place. If Ricky throws up an off balance shot and gets hit the same way, and Teague smacks the ball as Ricky goes sliding into the first row, people would be just as pissed off.

I don't believe Teague's whole mindset was to put Crowder on the floor when he started after him, I completely believe Teague was thinking about putting Rubio to the ground when he started running and that's the reason I'd like to know why.
We just see things differently and that's fine.
Return to Minnesota Timberwolves
