Re: We Want the Monk: The Malik Monk Thread
yea this is the season Clifford lost me. I really struggle to think Monk is that far behind his peers in talent, the second unit was mostly a lost cause anyways at the small guard spot, would've been better to keep letting Monk stretch his legs and his game. Hopefully, this isn't a Biz 2.0 situation where some smart team signs Monk for cheap and he blows up.

I for one have no issue with not playing Monk up to this point, except that I think he should be seeing PT up in Greensboro. Wasn't that part of the rationale behind having a D league team that was so close?

Yea at this point Monk has done everything but show that he deserves to be back into the rotation. Him and Bacon should’ve been spending time playing in the D-League through most of this season once it was clear that they are out of the rotation barring injury or garbage time.

With close to none experience. Good job Coach! Monk is going through the same thing Lamb did. Few years from now we will trade away Monk for close to nothing and he will go on to flourish for his new team.

I gotta see it to believe it. Clifford told us that Lamb will continue to get close to 30 minutes after Batum returned but instead we’ve seen him limited to 20 minutes (10 minute stint each half).

Good to see Monk get PT. Everyone knocks on Monk but every rookie struggles early in the season. Almost all rookies don't start out hot early on it's just those teams didn't give up on their rookies 13 games in. Monk hasn't been given time to get used to the NBA level without being pulled out 3 mins into playing.

Sometimes less than that. I've never seen a rookie with a shorter leash. Against the Bucks in December, he checked in in the second quarter and was promptly taken out after two minutes -- not to play another second for a week and a half or so. It's like if he allows his man to pass the ball to a teammate, he's benched for a month.
Meanwhile, MCW can shoot 0-11, but he got a steal that one time, so he's good.

Re: We Want the Monk: The Malik Monk Thread
It's been mentioned a lot on Hornets telecasts (mostly be Dell) that Monk will improve noticeably in the coming years simply because he added some muscle and can finish better through contact. I agree with that, but I also think a second unspoken factor will help him a lot as he moves into vet status: the referees will begin treating him more fairly.
The same thing happened to Kemba, Cody and MKG as rookies. Flying into the teeth of the defense, absolutely positively beyond any doubt being fouled multiple times on the way to the hoop...and no call, over and over. Officiating imo is the most BS part of the NBA, there is no question that the refs officiate Lebron/Harden different than Kemba/Lillard and that they make calls in favor of vets and overwhelmingly against rookies for reasons having nothing to do with what actually just happened on the floor. It's a convoluted and totally arbitrary tier system where some stars gets favored over others and age beats youth cuz reasons. I despise it. It's not a new phenomenon, it's been known for decades, but it never ceases to piss me off. Even when it's other teams rookies, it's just stupid and adds a pointless handicap to young players who already are a bit over their heads.
Next year, or perhaps the year after, once the officials subconsciously think "oh, I know this guy, seen him a couple times before" Monk's drives to the basket will magically draw more calls and some other teenager will get jobbed.

Around the 1:30 mark on the above video Embiid absolutely bodies up Monk on a layup attempt and not only that but he appears to smack him in the head (Zeller gets a putback on the play I'm referring about). I was going to mention it earlier this morning but figured why bother because I agree with you 100%, we may as well just beat our head against the wall. A foul is when one team gains a clear advantage over the other period no matter how many ASG's you've made, years of service in the league, etc. and how rookies and Hell even MKG are treated at times is sickening!

Not going to argue the officiating.
Here is what I saw last night ... Monk played a bit sloppy, especially on D ... but more importantly he looked like a guy that belonged. You know how some rookies just look out of place on the floor? That wasn't Monk. He played hard, took risk, and made some plays.

Are you not arguing that rookies are officiated badly or you agreed with the no-call(s) last night?
I agree with everything else you said.

That's the exact play that set me off

monk did some good things last night, drove the ball, had bounce, ran the offense, attempted defense and only a few wtf shots.

i don't even know if we can judge him anymore given that the team has officially thrown in the towel...
the year was a wash. i just hope he put in work and built a good routine to keep developing individually. hope he hits the ground running with the next coach
