The Bulls FO has demonstrated they can spot talent at later picks. The question is, can they spot it in the top 10, or top 6?

They made a good choice with Markkanen.

Because for the high level guys, their basketball ability is for the most part already decided. Scouts already had made up their minds before a single college game was played that the top young players in the world were Doncic, Porter, Bagley, Ayton, Bamba, etc..

And after 30 college games, the best players in the world are Doncic, Bagley, Ayton, Bamba, etc..

The NCAA may not even the best competition these top kids faced. In EYBL, Wendell Carter & Deandre Ayton went head to head and you got to see how they reacted to each other. In NCAA play, Ayton just demolishes 6' 8" PFs like gnats. In camps, you saw Porter go through 1 one 1 drills vs Dennis Smith Junior. You saw Bamba vs Ayton in the low post. In SL, you saw Marvin Bagley isolate 1 on 1 vs Derozan.

TBH, if the League eliminated 1 & done as Silver is suggesting, I don't know if scouts today would even blink an eye at the lack of college games for the very top players. College games are important for everyone else, a chance to shine like Trae Young, Mikal, JJR, etc..

But in general, the top 5 of a draft haven't changed much from high school to college. Maybe some shifting, like KAT vs Okafor. But even 1 year of college didn't really prove Okafor was the bust he was going to be, pretty much the opposite it may have made Okafor looked better than he was because he was playing for Duke.

Back in the day, with Deng, Jo, and Kirk too. (Kirk wasn't an All Star, but better than most #7 picks.)

He also has injury concerns. I can see why someone would rank him high. He's risky right now, but has high potential.

Combination of 10 mock drafts. Each draft position gets one point if in the lottery. If not in the lottery, then 20 points are awarded. There are 6 tiers

Tier 1 => 2 payers: #1, #2 | Tank was very successful
1.7 DeAndre Ayton
2.3 Luka Doncic

Tier 2 => 4 players: #3, #4, #5, #6 | We accomplished the Tank
4.4 Marving Bagley
4.5 Mohamed Bamba
4.9 Michael Porter Jr
4.9 Jaren Jackson Jr

Tier 3 => 1 player #7 | Tank wasn't good
5.8 Trae Young

Tier 4 => 5 players: #8, #9, #10, #11, #12 | We failed the tank
9.7 Mikal Bridges
10.1 Wendell Carter
10.5 Miles Bridges
11.0 Collin Sexton
12.2 Kevin Knox

Tier 5 => 3 players: #13, #14, #15 | New Orleans trade was a success
14.7 Robert Williams
15.7 Troy Brown
16.2 Lonnie Brown

Tier 6 => 3 players: #16, #17, #18 | New Orleans trade failed
18.2 Shai Gilgeous
19.1 Mitchel Ropbinson
19.1 Zhaire Smith
Call 911, the tank is dying alive, tank you very much

Were they as "can't miss" as Jahlil Okafor? Or OJ Mayo? Or Andrew Wiggins? Or Darius Miles? Or Shabazz Muhammad? Or Austin Rivers? Or Dajuan Wagner? Or Martell Webster?

I don't think anyone called Blake Griffin a can't miss guy.

He improved massively going into his Soph year.

Let's grab Bonzie Colson in the 2nd.

Weird body type, but I think it works.

Similar body type to Chris Gatling.

I think the dude is a cant miss star. Has and NBA body and skillset. To me he looks like he would be an impact player in his first year and an allstar by year two.

If so I’m super crazy as I have him #1. Porter and Ayton are my top 2 guys and then Doncic and Bagley round out my top 4.

How did Luka drop so far?

Any insights on what the Bulls are thinking? I know TyrusRose said Ayton is #1 on their board.

He didn’t drop for me.

Mikal Bridges I just hope he's not another Wesley Johnson. Him not being able to create is a problem.

It's really only a problem if you plan on building a team around him. Otherwise, it's not as problematic.

He was mocked in late lottery, late teens to start the season. Intersting guy - as you said weird body type, 6'5 but looks more of a PF, not a great athlete and that might be a big, maybe even insurmountable problem on NBA level, but produces on college level, both scoring and rebounding. He could be intersting in 2nd, dependig where exactly we are talking. I am not even sure I'd take him early 2nd over some guys who might be there, mid 2nd seems fine, I just don't see his game, along physique, translating to NBA.

I agree. I feel pretty confident that we will get the best player available wherever we draft.

We almost surely won't if we're picking 5-10.
