Rumors are the team wants a 1st back for Earl. A 3rd or 4th ain't gonna get it done. I honestly don't see a team offering that & so he won't get moved. Much like Sherm last off season. The team views Bobby Wagner & Earl as the most indispensable players on defense. I expect the team will extend him at some point. Likely this summer.

I really don’t think they make a move to sign Sherman. I’m more interested in seeing if they trade for Earl Thomas.

I don't see Seattle complete getting rid of their entire secondary unit and if you had to keep one, i'd probably keep Earl.

Reports are that they are listening to offers. They apparently want a lot in return though. I’d like the Cowboys to trade for him but not at a heavy price. I’d say 4th round max.

Throw in your 1st as well, and you have a deal!

Honestly, I don't see him being moved.

If that’s what they want they can keep him. I would only give up a 4th max. Maybe I’d throw in a 6th but that’s it.

Personally I think he gets extended. They’ll bring his cap number down and they’ll extend him by 4 years

But, why? I mean it's not like he's performed well as of late (Based on his current deal). Why would the team choose to extend him at all? If I was them, I would ask him to take a pay cut (legit one) & if he refuses than either trade or release him.

Just a 4th?

A player of his caliber (Best Free Safety in the game still & in his prime), is worth a lot more than that.

Is it because he only has 1 year left on his contract? Because Earl would definitely agree to sign an extension.

That’s why they will give him a new deal. To bring his pay down to the level of his play. I think at the end of the day he will take a paycut in order to be able to retire a Cowboy.

Hasn’t he also missed like 7 games over the last 2 seasons? Also he’ll be 29 next season so he’s on the back end of his prime.

Yeah, he has missed some time. But, the team wouldn't just give him away essentially (Your proposal). The team also is in a much better cap situation now (after the Sherm, Bennett, Lane cuts). So, there really is no need to trade him. Unless, they were to get a great offer.

Also, Kam Chancellor may or may not play this year. So by trading Earl, they would be very young & inexperienced in the secondary. I'm not sure the team really wants to go in that direction.

Wow. So, he'd essentially be going from a 16m/y player to 6m/y.

That’s where his level of play is. I don’t see Stephen budging from a low ball offer like that. If Dez wants to walk he can. No one is going to trade for that contract so he’d be cut not traded. I just have a feeling he’s going to take the paycut. He doesn’t want to leave Dallas. With his numbers do you think the Jordan brand will continue to endorse him if he’s playing for someone like the Titans, or Colts? He’s better off just staying with the Cowboys.

I have my doubts his ego would settle for an offer that low. I could easily see someone on the open market offer him a 1 year deal starting at around 8m/y. Then he can sign a bigger deal.

Don’t dismiss the persuasive powers of Jerry in this. That comment Zeke made the other day about Jerry standing behind players wasn’t just public posturing. It’s been a frustrating characteristic of Jerry for us for years. But he has stood behind Dez through a lot over the years... and I believe Dez when he says he wants to retire a Cowboy. I agree with Mr. B. A deal will get done. And when the Cowboys draft Ridley...

I don't share the opinion of my favorite fellow Cowboy fans and posters. I want Dez gone no matter what he wants. But Jerry has a way of f...... these situations up with his BUDDIES. If it wasn't for all this Romo and Dez dead money, I believe we COULD make a run at a Super Bowl this upcoming season. As long as Jerry still owns the team and continues to call the shots, we Cowboy fans are still handicapped. Anything could happen in Jerry's world. Stay tuned.

I’m really starting to believe that they will have a shot at Ridley. He didn’t exactly blow teams away at the Combine which could cause him to slip. I still believe that if Ridley is sitting there at 15 the Cowboys will trade up to get him. I’d feel a lot better about having Dez on the team if Dak also has a guy like Ridley to throw to. The problem is TWill and his contract. That is the guy that also really needs to go.

Yep. Unless he is a post-June 1 cut and we have the room to manage his hit this season, we’re stuck with Williams this year. But - he’s GONE next year.
