Ish Smith

Post#1 » by vege » Thu Mar 8, 2018 10:27 pm

I never realized his career was so crazy, and he got traded/waived so many times. I Think he was a great backup for us, I'm not happy with him in our starting lineup, I don't think he fits well there, but I enjoy watching him play a lot. He is a good player, and deserves a better career than he had so far.

I'm glad we gave him that contract, and I hope we give him his next contract as well, so he can finally stay with a franchise for a while. He is the only good free agent sign during SVG period.

Anyways, this is a cool video and I think it's worth watching, the best part was to know he finally bought a house.

I love Ish, he's the perfect back up PG. Capable of pushing pace and giving you assists. Every team needs that.

Him starting isn't the answer for us however.

Ish has been great for us. He's a back up playing too many minutes right now, but you can never question his effort. Once Reggie gets back ish will be a huge boost to the bench. Unfortunately it'll be too late for a playoff run

Ish is a top 3 backup point in the league. Perfect to run circles around the defense. That said, it’ll only work for 10-15 min per game.

I love ish. By all accounts, he's a great guy and pushes his teammates both in practice and games. He's just not skilled enough to be a starting pg in the current NBA. With the way the game is going, your pg needs to be able to shoot from distance. If you can't keep the floor spread, you just aren't going to get enough clean looks to keep up offensively with any of the top teams.

I’d take Shabaz Napier, Terry Rozier, Tomas Satoransky and Tyus Jones over Ish, and that’s without really thinking about it. Ish is good but he’s often overrated by our fan base. Maybe it’s a way of self soothing given our current and future outlook, I really can’t blame anyone doing so if that’s the case.

Ish is a solid backup point. With a crew that can run he's effective, although he doesn't have the best court awareness. Every game he'll miss shooters who are wide open. He can take the ball wherever he wants, but doesn't always seem to know what to do with it.

I don't get why people get upset about him being in the starting line-up. His shooting is trash, yes. But, he plays hard every game. And, if his shooting was good, he'd be a starter on a max contract anyways. With his speed, passing and handle. If he had a 3 that teams had to respect, he'd be a top 10 PG. In that scenario, he wouldn't be in Detroit, being a backup for Broke Back Jackson.

Because we need to space the floor so Andre and Blake pairing can work  On the 2nd unity we have Tolliver instead either Drummond or Blake, so we don't have spacing issues, so we can afford to have a non shooter PG there, so Ish is amazing coming off the bench, and really bad starting.

Ish took a great contract and came to play. It's not his fault that SVG is terrible at his job.

Yes we all agree about that. It's not Ish's fault, it's SVG.

Ish is a terrible fit for this team right now. He's fast and can get by anyone but the paint is completely clogged because of Drummond and Blake. Since we don't have any outside shooters other than Bullock, Tolliver and rarely Kennard there is nobody to kick the ball out to. One of the reasons we were off to such a hot start to the season was because of our defense. LOL That's gone. Ish's ability to push the pace and get out on the break is negated because we can't stop anyone. What he is best at we can't utilize right now. His biggest weaknesses (defense and shooting) are also two of our biggest problems on the team overall. In the off season I think he should be traded. He's got a reasonable contract for the production he can provide on the right team and we might be able to get something decent for him. If we don't blow the whole team up in the off season we need shooters, shooters, shooters at every position to clear up space for Dre and Blake to do what they do best. Ish sadly doesn't fit into that.
