How at risk are the Pistons from leaving? Terrible attendance at a new arena, no chance Detroit tax payers would back a standalone basketball venue any time soon. No hope for next 4-5 years means **** crowds and no excitement around the team - Gores on paper lost 60M+ last season and will surely lose more this season.

The attendance sucks because the team sucks; it sucked at the Palace too. Teams leave because their attendance sucks when the team is good, i.e. the market they’re in doesn’t care about the team. The Pistons were the hottest ticket in town when they were good and there’s no reason to believe that wouldn’t be the case if the team got really good again.

Not to mention that Detroit is still a major sports market city. There are cities you think of that the leagues would never approve teams moving from like New York, LA (teams move from there because there are too many of them), Chicago, Philly, etc. From a sports standpoint Detroit is still one of those cities.

I'm not saying things are rosey and that SVG has been flawless, but...
Leuer and especially Meeks were hampered by injuries. **** happens. And as usual, Pistons need to overpay somewhat to get free agents. And as for draft choices, it is easy to pick the rookie players who have performed the best and say we should have drafted them, but it is tougher to do that before the draft And our problem is we haven't sucked enough to get good picks. Drafting 8-12 you should get eventual starters, but drafting 1-5? That's where you get franchise changers.

Not sure what the path out of this mess is, but without a trade or a draft pick, a healthy RJ would help us the most.

The only way putting top 4 protection makes any sort of sense is in the slight (less than 1%) chance we pop into the top 3 this year, then decide to nuke the entire roster to be the worst team in the league next year.

I don’t believe that we have to overpay free agents. I think that’s a cop out. How about we take the first month of free agency off and let the stupid money go first? Our split up MLE will look pretty darn good to a couple of good role players around August first.

Instead, on July 1st Stan will pull a limousine up to Omar Casspi’s apartment complex in Oakland and offer him $30 million over three years because his analytics staff says he’s undervalued. Good times......

Ask the former San Diego Chargers if leaving for a new city is the panacea for attendance issues. Only winning does that successfully.

It's pretty evident that moving downtown was a massive miscalculation though.

This team is rubbish beyond Dre and Griffin. Bench players, G-leaguers, young players who are busts or haven't developed. I mean, do we have a perimeter player who's top 20 at his position? We are as bad as anyone 3-10.

Our best (only?) option is hope some time for Dre and Blake playing together improves things. And we somehow get close to a NBA-level perimeter around them. There won't be a Hinkie style tear down.

Sadly Heisenberg has hit the only way we become legit. Win the lotto, and then tank OR win the lotto again. Actually might not be too hard if we win the lotto and then Blake gets injured. But truly, there is only one relevant day left to being a piston fan, and that is May 15. 2 years of our fate is down to watching TV for 15 minutes on May 15. That's how sad we have become.
