Laurel D'Antoni, the wife of Rockets coach Mike D'Antoni, was honored during Monday's game at Toyota Center with the inaugural "Partner in Public Education Award" given by the Texas School Public Relations Association for her work spearheading the Rockets Women's Organization in helping Sheldon Independent School District recover from Hurricane Harvey.

The D'Antonis donated to the Sheldon ISD education Foundation to help teachers replace school items lost in the floors. The Rockets Women's Foundation donated backpacks and school supplies and distributed books with the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation. The Association is returning on Tuesday, Laurel D'Antoni said.

"The schools are awesome," D'Antoni said. "Sheldon is a school district in Northeast Houston. It's in unincorporated Harris County. It's kind of a challenging environment as it is right now. "One of the problems we're having is attendance because a lot of the families are still displaced. It's real close to Greens Bayou so the families aren't back in their house, but the schools get funding if the kids attend school. If the kids don't live in their house, how do they get funding? It's a serious problem.

LDA and this award, is like MDA and COTY.

Not enough Houston for two D'Antoni's. I don't see it working. The FIT just isn't there.

But good on LDA!
