I mean, how could we be putting that amount of money toward a guy who is really just a mediocre player, and certainly not an every down guy? Instead, we front-loaded it. $11 million in year one? Mind. Blown. And not in a good way.

The most amazing thing to me is the ceiling potential here. I can fall pretty hard for some players and am fairly aggressive once I do. I understand sometimes going above to get your guy. I'm sure that's part in this. But at the same time, on a personal level, for me it's almost every time on a guy that I feel like he an elite trait or elite traits that SHOULD translate to the field. There's obviously things like picking up a coach's system and putting in the work that's harder to peg but I've gotten to the point where if I fall THAT hard for a guy that's one of my baseline questions. Does he have an elite trait or traits?

One of the hardest things for me with this is they aren't even doing it for a guy who has ANY ONE elite trait IMO. If he does, what is it? I'm pretty close to Vikings headquarters. I've never seen it on a field. He tests better than it translates to a field. Does Shanahan have an idea up his sleeve where he sees something that he can take the athletic ability and translate it to the field? I'm a major doubter of that. It's his (JM's) biggest problem. His elite athletic scores do not translate to the field stuff IMO.

If someone asks me can I come up with any other one positive? Umm. Actually maybe. I don't think the team is going to be as good as a lot of people do. I'm REALLY reaching here but maybe at least they aren't taking a guy I feel good about and putting unnecessary miles on his tires for when the team's window ideally starts to open. That's about ALL I have. And a whole lot of negative is still attached to that. Ha!

On the other hand. Ideally you get some kind of foundation in place with your quarterback and you develop things that you can start to build off of in KS's system because his system takes longer for his QBs to fully understand the system more so than some other NFL coaches. On the flip side there could be a benefit in JG having his back of the future to progress with as he becomes more familiar with the system.

I tried......

Eifert > Ebron. Easily. Not even a question in my mind. Even with the injury stuff. Granted Ebron has missed a couple games in all but this last season.

Oh i agree that Eifert is above Ebron... I was under the assumption that Eifert is/was looking for bigger pay. Ebron has no leverage IMO.

Fair.

Siemian wouldn't have been at the top of my insurance policy QB list but he'd be on it. I'm fine passing him over now since I don't think this team needs to worry about playoffs this year but if this team's window opens up a bit more somehow, I'd start to push pretty strong to have a mature backup in place in the event JG goes down for a period and they need someone to keep them afloat for a while.

Do I even need to say anymore that Beathard is not that for me? I think I've made that pretty clear to most by now. I don't even want to have to keep saying it because it's probably annoying at this point.

If I had to go with a guy for this year I'd really like to target Matt Moore as i've been saying. He probably can get more elsewhere and because I don't think this team is really headed anywhere special this year it's not like they absolutely NEED him this year but he's the type of guy I'd really like to have on hand in case I'm wrong about the team's window and it opens sooner than expected.

I don't really like anybody scheduled to be free next year. Fitzpatrick if his price tag ever went down quite a bit. Maybe that. Not too realistic though.

Actually, the more I look now the less I like what I think could be realistic down the road for the next couple offseasons. Sure, there's always surprises. Hmm, another thing to ponder...

I just can't wrap my head around this one. Not that Crowell is a world-beater, by any means, but I'd rather have him for the money than McKinnon. Kyle better have some pretty incredible things in mind for this kid.
