If none of the players on that range feel interesting, would you consider trading the pick on draft day for an established player or any of the players already picked by another team? Who do you really want?

In other words, give me some names. Both from the draft and from the players under contract right now.

Where does Bridges project, 10-15?

3 and D isn't easy. You've had players like Stanley Johnson, Winslow and others drafted fairly high but their 3-point shooting just doesn't come up to snuff.

Winslow is shooting real well this year but only averages 1.5 3PA. Oubre shooting pretty well this year too. Prince has shot well so far in his career.

Ariza is having a career year shooting the 3, on 7.2 3PA per game. He wasn't drafted high (#43) but developed a good enough 3 point shot after he got into the league, where he managed to stick on rosters because of his defense.

Mitchell Robinson for the big man and Shai Gilgeous Alexander for the guard, those are the names caught my attention from draft boards. Especially Robinson, whom might be the real deal if he still looks competitive in workouts with full year off of the competition.

A wing. A legitimate, NBA-sized, wing. That has been our missing piece for ages. Wes Johnson, sadly, is the closest we have had.

I thought we have that wing with Tobias Harris. :(

I still consider him a combo forward, but he can certainly play the 3. That said, we should have 3-4 guys who can do that. Take a look around some of the best rosters in the league. They all have multiple 6'8"+ guys who can slide up or down and play the three. Positionless basketball. Look no further than the Warriors and Celtics. Interchangeable parts all over those rosters.
Plus, why would I want to go to the NBA? Duke players suck in the pros.

Yeah definitely, depending on what's on the table. I'd be looking to buy low, focusing on young guys on rookie contracts. Pacers probably hang up the phone real quick, but I'd be ringing them pretty much every day about Turner. With the emergence of Sabonis and Turner's progress stalling a little bit, maybe there's a chance there. Would love Myles on this team. I like Hernangomez from the Nuggets too, but they're headed in the other direction so I don't think they'd want to trade a player for a pick. For other players on the draft, well pretty much the ones mentioned in this thread, but all that would depend on the price and what's available to move up, so don't really have a name for you. Wouldn't be against moving down either, if the best we can get is projected a bunch of positions below us and we can get an extra asset. Obviously if an older top player is available to us for both the picks + Tobias and Trez, or something like that, say a Kawhi Leonard or a Damian Lillard, I'm all for it too.

But anyway, I don't have the talent evaluation skills to know if that's the best idea, while Jerry West and Trent Redden do. And they have a much better understanding of the market by having conversations with other executives. I'm sure they'll know better than anyone which one of those scenarios is worth playing out, or if there's some guy projected in our range that I don't see anything in, but makes it worth to just keep the pick.

Not a surprise here, but he would be a good choice for our own first round pick. Fits how we want to build our roster.

DX's mock draft dated 2/20/18 via ESPN Insider currently has him at 10th overall while NBAdraft.net has him 11th as of 3/8/18 (to the Clippers via Detroit).

Imagine drafting Mikal and then signing Kawhi in 2019.

If Mikal turns into ANY kind of plus defender on the wing, it could that team in Oakland fits...

Well, more fits than they’ve had before.

Any Shai Gilgeous Alexander fans here? I think I saw someone mention him earlier.

Been watching him get busy in this SEC tournament. He’s been fantastic. He’d be a clear departure from the CP3 type ball dominant point guarding we grew to love but he’d be great for Doc’s #ballmovement. Tall and big for the position.

Depending on where our pick is and who is on the board...why not?

I'd like to re-state my objection to giving up the pick in the Gallo deal for the 2nd time today and like 10th time since it happened.

There's a chance for a swing for the fences pick like Hamidou Diallo at the end of the first round. The Anfernee Simmons guy Tuscon and Ranma were discussing.
Or if Chandler Hutchinson falls into the 20s, maybe we could have traded up to make that happen.

Just my opinion.
I'm in on the draft 100% and I wish we could take a huge swing at a low cost like that.

As a Hawks fan, I am very interested in a potential draft day trade for the 11-14 pick. Not that interested in moving any higher due to cost but I am interested in this range. Dennis is available for trade as well as others if the interest is there.

No interest in taking Gallo deal though. None whatsoever.

If I'm the Clippers FO, I like this draft a lot for what I'll call a "talent cup". I'm not sure our 2 draft picks will be seamless fits if we draft strictly off BPA but we could be talent rich.

With that in mind, I value this draft a lot and it's going to take a lot more than Schroeder + a 20s pick to wrestle any lottery pick away from me.

What about Collins? He's been an outstanding rookie and he's very young. I don't think Atlanta is too interesting in moving him but would that interest you for that lotto pick?

The Ringer's Draft Guide (Tournament Starter Edition)

Post#239 » by Ranma » Wed Mar 14, 2018 10:59 pm

This seems like quite a balanced draft with a fairly deep pool of elite-level talent atop the class and depth extending to possibly the end of the first round. It's not as deep as the 2016 class, which had first-round talent spill over into the second round--Tyrone Wallace was the last pick in that draft--but the current class is certainly more top-heavy with more top-of-the-line talent available in the lottery.

My current favorite early-targeted prospects for our projected 2 first-round selections are Mikal Bridges and Anfernee Simons at the moment.
