When did this travesty of allowing ads on jerseys start and what do you guys think of it? I see even the jerseys fans can buy have the ads on them. Weak.

it started from this szn. it doesn't bother me that much considering how other sports (soccer, racing, etc?) have done it for a long time. weak for sure doh.

ads on jersesys are definitely annoying.. are they selling em cheaper? that would be only somewhat acceptable but i doubt it.

Oh, I don't know if they cost less. I just saw the fans wearing them. And personally, I believe there should be a price reduction cuz the fan now becomes the advertisement. But I doubt they'll lower the prices. All about that $$$.

The São Paulo State Championship enters its knockout round phase this weekend. Here is the schedule of the quarter-finals:

Image

I'll explain row by row rather than day by day:

The first row shows the Corinthians vs Bragantino matchup. Bragantino is a decent team, with a 4-9-5 record during the classification round. They really don't have a good chance versus Corinthians, a team that is loaded with good players and gets a lot of help from the whistle. If that's not enough, both games will be away games for Bragantino, because their stadium is too small. Games are Sunday and Thursday.

The second row shows the games between my team, São Paulo, and another interior team, São Caetano. Despite the fact we just liquidated a small team in Alagoas to get to the next phase of the Copa Brasil (a national cup that is all knockout rounds), I'm not convinced we have a good chance in the state championship. We haven't beaten a major rival like Santos, Palmeiras, or Corinthians in a long while. We should be good enough to beat São Caetano, but you never can tell. We just fired the previous coach that saved us from elimination from the National Championship's first division last season. The new coach is Diego Aguirre from Argentina, a good coach who was a great player. Games are Saturday (in São Caetano) & Tuesday (in our stadium). The two stadiums are only 40 minutes apart even with our miserable traffic.

The third row shows Palmeiras's matchup with Novorizontino. Palmeiras, again, is a very good team with an 8-2-2 record, the best in the championship. Novorizontino was 6-2-4. Palmeiras also had an 8 goal advantage. They are really strong and smacked São Paulo hard when we played them. Games are Saturday (in Novo Horizonte - about 300 miles from the capital) & Wednesday (in Palmeiras's home stadium). Palmeiras killed São Paulo, but we took Nororizontino to a scoreless draw.

The fourth row pits a good Santos team against Botafogo of Riberão Preto. This is a tough draw for Santos because that stadium is a decent distance from their city and the stadium is packed with local fans who sit really close to the field. Santos has a 5-3-4 record. BRP has 4-4-4. I still think Santos wins. They are a fluid team and BRP plays like a small team. They'll never beat Santos at home in a decisive match.

The winners of these quarter-finals play in the semi-finals. Those winners play in the state championship.

And, yeah, it's almost time for the World Cup to start. Anyone got a favorite team? I always cheer for Brazil, but I can see the European teams having a significant advantage. I actually like England's chances, but Germany and Spain are the best.

And, yeah, I see how high Portugal and Belgium are ranked. I'm not buying it. Sorry, Ronaldo.

I don't like it, looks so out of place to me

The ads on the for-sale jerseys are even more of a joke, why the hell would I want to wear some stupid ad :noway: I was thinking about maybe getting a Vice Dragic jersey (already was leaning against it since they're so expensive), but from what I saw they only had ones with ads on them. Phuuuuck that

Yeah, I'm glad I still got my D-Wade (and J-Will) jersey from many years ago. The Vice ones are nice, but the ads are a real turnoff. It definitely eases the urge of buying a jersey any time soon.

I feel so bad for the people who got hurt. Less than a week after it went up. The second picture was taken two days ago showing the gap at what was the foundation of the bridge. This was preventable which is the worst thing.

I've looked into joining it. There's a lot of conspiracy theories behind it, but on their website, they seem pretty normal, and even state that you're going to be very disappointed if you expect to be inducted into some secret society like what's talked about in the conspiracy theories. Recounting from the top of my head: it's just a fraternity with the intent of helping out your fellow man. Anyone can join so long as you subscribe to a monotheist religion. They have a location (called "Lodge") here near my house in Miami.

There was one particular incident where a man was shot dead in a botched initiation: http://www.foxnews.com/story/2004/03/09/man-killed-during-initiation-at-masonic-lodge.html

I would imagine this isn't common or else we'd hear a lot more about it.

Although it's probably not kosher to view it as such, I'm sure there's a huge benefit to joining in terms of the connections you make. Many powerful people, including Presidents, have been Freemasons.

I've been visiting with various lodges in recent weeks and months to have some questions answered and to express my curiosity. All of that secret society stuff is hogwash. Really shapes out to be a group of good dudes coming together in fraternity. There's ritual, yes, but it's not unlike the traditions that other fraternities perform, though unique and ancient in their own special way.

Honestly, I just love the idea of fraternity, personal/collective improvement, and always having a home no matter where you go in the world. Charity, philanthropy, community work, etc. It's all very appealing. All the masons I've had the pleasure of meeting strike me as individuals I wouldn't mind hanging out with, whether Blue Lodge or Prince Hall.

I agree with you on all of that. I'm always interested in helping out others when I can and uplifting them. Usually, people who feel the same way are good people. Being around good people while helping others is a fulfilling feeling in life. And you're right about 'always having a home anywhere in the world'; it's cool to know you've got friends that will lend a hand in some way whom you may not even know, yet.

If you do join, let us know how it goes.
