I think he'll play in the Olympics but probably skip everything else.

That's very close to the start of the season.

One bright spot is Australia is in the same group as other asian teams, which requires less Ben Simmons.

Interesting question, though I expect him to play in front of his home city. Probably one consideration for having it in Melbourne, in particular. Andrew Bogut and Kyrie Irving are also from Melbourne, but he would be a massive drawcard given the growing popularity of the Sixers in Australia. Funnily enough, the dates mirror the date of his visit to Melbourne (Aug 21) where he played social basketball for a team in the outer suburbs.

It's the warm up matches for the World Cup which is on a week later.... 31 Aug to 15 Sep... so I would expect most countries would have their best players playing.

Bold prediction.

The next player to average a triple double for an entire season in the nba will be Ben Simmons.

Depends on who we get in free agency....if we get someone big time.

I think the only thing that will hold him back is rebounds.

With Joel and Dario out there playing the 4 and 5 and being such good rebounders as they are Ben is kind of left with getting only contested rebounds.

If Ben gets played more at the 4 spot than the 1 then I think averaging a triple double is possible.

Was that a 15 assist - 0 turnover game from Ben?

Wow 8-)

I’d be amazed and seriously pissed off if he doesn’t play in Melbourne as that’s what will sell it

It’s a 50k seater and Australians will turn up for him (me included)

10k in Cairns versus Taiwan and nobody will care

Buyer beware. I think he will play but then again it wouldn't surprise me if he doesn't. I know the US team probably won't be anything close to full strength like it is for the Olympics.

From afar with all the national team stuff it almost seems like Australia is trying to back Ben into a corner where he looks like a jerk if he doesn't participate. I don't get the sense that there's much of a collaborative back and forth. Maybe I'm wrong.

Ben Simmons’ 2nd unit (Ben-Beli-Roco-Dario-Amir) +55NetRtg. Our best 5 man unit in last 10 games or after the addition of Ersan.

Prior to Beli signing, the Ben 2nd unit had been problematic.

You now have 3 reliable units. Starting 5. Ben’s 2nd unit and Biid’s 2nd unit (TJ-JJ-JA-Ersan-Biid)

As of now, the common denominator is TJ being a negative. I can’t see Fultz being any worse.

I also notice Ben playing more at the post recently, that could also be a factor. Last 5 games, I also notice Ben playing some PF with the 2nd unit.

Ben Simmons having better oncourt NetRtg than Embiid in last 10 games.

Our team plays best offense when Ben is on the court. 119 ORtg last 10 games and 115 ORtg last 15.

Really love what im seeing from my point guard

He is a rookie. I just have to remind this to myself, cause he doesn't look like one. My God he'll be GREAT!

Hard to believe that he hasnt been consulted as an event of this magnitude would require the support of the state government and I doubt that they'd commit without some assurances

Personally, I find Rookie as a label. I’d rather evaluate players relative to their age. Nevertheless, Ben’s been really impressive lately.

Why would they get any assurances though? The fact they are playing the US team should be enough to sell out the game... it's not all about Ben Simmons although I get 80% of the crowd will be bandwagoners there to see him... which deep down will make me kinda chuckle inside if he doesn't turn up.

It's fairly normal for Australia to play the USA in lead up games to the World Cup and Olympics... this is nothing new. It is just in the past the games have tended to be played in the US or Europe as that is where the world championships or Olympics have always been played.

This time the world cup is in China so it makes more logical sense for the game to be played in Australia which is closer geographically than the US.

Put it this way I saw the promos for the game released by Basketball Australia and newspapers already showing images of Lebron, Curry and Durant. I can guarantee they've seeked no assurances from those players that they will be in Australia for this game because I can almost guarantee they won't be.

If people buy tickets expecting Simmons and co to be there and they choose not to.... they should blame themselves for getting their hopes up not the players.
