We are in the semi-finals. After losing the first game, there were many fans disappointed -- Only 17,800 fans today in the thunderstorm.
Santos plays tomorrow. They need to win to avoid penalties. Their first game was 0x0 in Riberão Preto. Palmeiras won their game over the weekend 3x0 and play without pressure at home with 3 goals of advantage.
Bragantino has a one-goal advantage on Corinthians after winning 3x2. The game will be a massive pressure cooker.
History:
Though there are 16 teams in the Campeonato Paulista this year and have been more than 30 before, most of the titles have been won by only a few:
Corinthians is the historic leader with 28 championships and 21 runners-up.
Palmeiras has 22 championships and 23 runners-up.
Santos has 22 championships and 11 runners-up.
São Paulo has 21 and 16 runners-up
Before 1930 there were several other strong teams, including Paulistano (11 championships, 10 runners up, including 4 in a row from 1916 through 1919).
Recently a few stronger teams from the “interior” (not from the metropolitan area of São Paulo or Santos) have won. São Caetano in 2004, Ituano in 2002 & 2014 (!), Bragantino in 1990, and Internacional de Limeira in 1986. Bragantino & São Caetano were in the quarter finals this year.
Although this is not a national championship, the battles between the top teams are often great games. Regional rivalry is fierce. Everyone wants bragging rights. The fact that São Paulo (2005) and Palmeiras (2008) have been denied so many years weighs heavily.
Here is a summary of this century’s championships, including champion and runners-up, as well as the position of the top teams when they were not involved.

It’s complicated. The Rio-São Paulo tournament had precedence at this time and lots of small teams were included in the Campeonato Paulista. There were three phases to the championship befor it settled on 8 teams (predictable ones): Santos, São Paulo, Portuguesa, and Guarani in one group. Corinthians, Palmeiras, Ponte Preta, and (surprise entry) Rio Branco in the other.
Palmeiras
Santos
Semifinal: Santos and Palmeiras drew and then Santos beat Palmeiras.
São Paulo beat Corinthians twice.
São Paulo beat Santos in the final (1-0 and then they drew 2-2)

I remember 11-30 with these guys. ^
