What's with the headline? That's not even what the tweet you linked says.

Anyways,

I won't ding it. Chauncey was a leader on the 'Going to Work' Pistons, and is clearly a sharp guy. We can debate the +/- of front office experience, but every great one got a start somewhere, and usually are hard to pry loose once they get their spot. I suppose most everyone is thinking some kind of change is in order.

If Chauncey were to take a job with us, you KNOW the first thing he’d want to do is trade Reggie lol

I do think there’s a little smoke here, though. Obviously, nobody can really say/confirm anything until our season’s over.

Kind of a non-denial type of denial there. "I would never push for a job that is not open." sounds a whole lot like "Yeah, I'm interested, but I'm not going to disrespect SVG when he still has the position filled."

So did you clickbait the title on purpose or is English not even your second language?

They’re interested.

They just don’t want to torment Van Gundy by publicly acknowledging it.

Tellem moving to the basketball side of things will happen.

I'm not too excited about that. Bring in another guy who has never built a team. His experience is extracting as much money as possible from each organization for his clients. Maybe that translates to a good understanding of free agent values? But, I'm skeptical. There are 29 other teams with 29 assistant GM's that have much more experience than Tellem.

I suppose this team is in cap hell for the next 3 years anyways. As long as he doesn't start giving draft picks away, he can't make it much worse.

I'm all for replacing SVG with Tellem and Billups. Time for a change at the front office, and I think Billups is a smart, respected guy throughout the league that will add some life to this team. My hunch is Dumars was likely grooming Billups for a front office position before he was canned.

I'll be interested to see what we do on the coaching front. I'd like to take our chances with a younger coach who may have some fresh ideas. I'd also be willing to give Fizdale or Blatt a good look. How about Dunkin' Darvin Ham? Seems like he's a pretty good assistant. Might not be ready for a head coaching gig, but could be worth looking into.

Sounds like Billups doesn't want to be linked until Van Gundy officially loses control of Basketball Operations

It won’t be the first agent brought in to run a team, nor would it be the first success in that regard.

I’ve always felt that was Gores plan B if the Van Gundy experiment failed, which it appears to have done.

It’s tough to imagine anything salvaging our current situation.

Who knows more about basketball Tellem or CB?... who knows more about the business side... The duties seem bass akwards.

It seems like they're suggesting that Tellem and CB would be co-GM's? So maybe Tellem deals with the business side of that while Chauncey deals with the personnel?

Maybe I'm missing something here. Seems like the roles are slightly unclear.

Yeah, I'm really hoping for an "analytical whiz kid" if we're looking for a front office overhaul. Adding a "franchise legend" would really feel like another shallow "excitement generating" kinda move and I'm just not into it.

"Hey!!! You remember Mr. Big Shot right?! You guys totally LOVE him right?! Doesn't that make you excited!!!".

No... not really.
