Sam Darnold - QB - Trojans

NFL Media's Daniel Jeremiah polled five NFL executives, and two compared USC Sam Darnold to Tony Romo.

Brett Favre was also mentioned, as well as Jared Goff and Ryan Tannehill. We don't understand Goff and Tannehill... at all. The Romo comparison makes total sense, as Darnold loves to maneuver after his first read, sometimes dropping his eyes and sometimes displaying chaotic tendencies. His base is very unrefined, but Darnold has a ridiculous arm and can make off platform and off base throws over and over. He isn't textbook, but Darnold is very intriguing.

Baker Mayfield - QB - Sooners

The Dolphins are putting Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield through a private workout on Wednesday, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

The connection between Mayfield and the Dolphins has been a common one. The Dolphins have publicly stated Ryan Tannehill is their quarterback, but this workout and other buzz from beat writers suggest that is not the case. The Dolphins are just another team that could make a major move up in the draft.

I think there's a fair chance he'll still be there if they move down to 12. Past that, I wouldn't hold my breath. Though there are plenty of mocks still coming out with Landry in the 20s and 30s.

I don’t see the Suggs comparisons at all. Other than that they’re quick off the ball and also they don’t mind causing the initial contact with big offensive lineman. They have great technique to disengage despite their smaller sizes going against bigger men. I noticed that the majority of the fans here are extremely high on Landry. He’s good but not great IMO. I don’t think he’s worth a top 20 pick, let a lone a top ten. He’s definitely graded as a first rounder in my books but he’s not uniquely awesome to spend such a high pick on the guy.

Not sure I'd say extremely high, he's just the best natural pass rusher in the draft, and that's a) an area of huge importance in today's NFL, and b) almost certainly our biggest need coming out of FA. I haven't watched film on him, so I don't have an incredibly strong opinion, but I do think his 2016 season and his measurables make him a guy we need to consider as early as 9.

Great news for us at #9. If Mayfield is still on the board, hopefully there's a market for him.

Sam Darnold - QB - Player

According to ESPN's Jeff Darlington, the "overwhelming sense" at USC QB Sam Darnold's Wednesday Pro Day was that Darnold will be the No. 1 overall pick in April's draft.

All reports were positive on Darnold's Wednesday performance in front of execs and scouts, and the general feeling coming out of the Combine was Darnold is the Browns' top target. In addition to coach Hue Jackson and new GM John Dorsey, owner Jimmy Haslam attended Darnold's Pro Day and took notes in the stands. A gunslinger whose technique needs polish, Darnold blends similar skills of Matthew Stafford and Tony Romo. After acquiring Tyrod Taylor, the Browns would have the luxury of sitting Darnold for most if not all of his first year.

Is this gonna turn out to be like Byron Jones who you said was the best CB in the draft, and I said "LOL, that guy's a safety prospect in the NFL (before anyone else said anything to that respect)," and then said, "I'm clearly better than you at this?" 8-)

...BTW, this is nothing against Christian Campbell. I have to see more of him. But I think you've achieved homer status.

Until proven otherwise, I still feel the Cowboys are only hurting themselves putting Jones at safety where he's barely above average. Basically Christian Campbell and Byron Jones are a lot alike except Campbell isn't as much of an athlete but he does have better physicality.

Landry apparently played injured this year, for what it's worth.

Sack production in college tends to translate to the NFL. And Landry's a hell of an athlete. Short arms are a concern, though.

Sam Darnold - QB - Trojans

Browns owner Jimmy Haslam attended USC QB Sam Darnold's pro day on Wednesday.

An owner attending a pro day workout does not happen often. We've seen owners visit or meet with quarterback prospects, but a public event like this is uncommon. Haslam was seen talking with Darnold's parents in the stands. We call this is a strong hint. Darnold is currently the favorite for the No. 1 pick.

That organization did him an injustice by forcing him to play his rookie year when he was clearly injured that season, and should have been placed on IR from the onset. He was never healed properly IMO which further hindered his progression for several years; certaunly affected his play his sophomore season. To sum it up, he already has too much mileage on him. The way he was handled his first two years has caused him to lose a little step in his giddy-up / not as quite as explosive when he first came out of college. Though he’s now bordering an elite status defender in the league, I don’t know if he’s quite there to be fully trusted to remain healthy going forward. Therefore, I wouldn’t want to see us trade our 9th pick for him. Mind you, I was one of his biggest supporters when he was a prospect — called him a generational type of player.

Sam Darnold - QB - Trojans

NFL Media's Daniel Jeremiah spoke with "a handful of teams" picking outside the draft's first 10 picks who believe USC QB Sam Darnold will be the No. 1 overall selection in April.

Jeremiah was on-hand for Darnold's Wednesday pro day -- as was Browns owner Jimmy Haslam -- and even with the draft a month out, there seems to be a groundswell of momentum for the Southern Cal gunslinger to land in Cleveland with the first overall selection. As for the 6-foot-3, 221-pounder's pro day itself, Jeremiah writes that Darnold's was "one of the better pro days [he's] seen," especially when the wet, rainy conditions were factored in. Not every evaluator saw it in the same way, though, with Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline taking to Twitter on Wednesday night to express some confusion over the pub for Darnold's work. Pauline saw Josh Rosen's pro day as considerably more impressive.

Ronald Jones II - RB - Trojans

NFL Media's Lance Zierlein has heard from more than one team that USC RB Ronald Jones has been "dismissive" during interactions.

This has turned off two teams, per Zierlein. "Caught both teams way off guard," he tweeted. Jones did not complete his workout at the NFL Combine but will look to finish it at USC's second pro day in early April. He's in the running for the second running back off the board and fits best in a zone-heavy scheme thanks to his ability to put his foot in the dirt and get upfield. To be clear, we aren't sure what "dismissive" means.
