X's and O's: Strategy and Play Calling under Brooks

Post#1 » by Wiz99 » Tue Mar 20, 2018 8:43 am

I found this clip super helpful understanding the flow of Brooks’ offense.

Learned a lot about cuts, lifts, flashes and handoffs that are all enabled from a C-PG pick.

Good stuff!

Great video. Thanks for posting. I'm going to broaden the subject title to incorporate all X's and O's strategy talk.

Here's a video from last year. It's interesting to see how the plays have changed with Wall out. With Wall in, they run more stuff to try and take advantage of the pressure Wall can put on the defense with his penetration ability. Some of the off-the-ball action can work simply by distracting the help defense enough so that Wall can make one-on-one play against his man.

Hopefully, they'll be able to integrate Wall's superior penetration ability while still enjoying the ball-movement we've seen in the offense with Sato at the helm.

What a coincidence this thread is up today because I was bored at work and going through some old Scotty Brooks' offenses with the Thunder and came upon this gem. Up 15 against the Rockets, Scotty lets a 2-3 zone completely befuddle his offense. Sorry if this wasn't meant to be a negative thread regarding the Wizards/Brooks, but I thought it was worth sharing given how much we give Brooks grief for not being able to adapt.

I don't really find this relevant.

OKC years ago =/= Washington now. Washington doesn't have two mvp level talents to eat up 60% of a teams usage while needing less than half of those attempts to be assisted themselves, considerably less than what Washington has had to work with the past two seasons.

I find it hilarious that people continue to find ways to take dumps on a guy that has literally never finished an NBA season lower than 12th in offensive efficiency.

It's a players league.
