It was a fine trade the Bears made if Trubisky is for real. They certainly did not overpay. And it is probably OK if you do overpay for a franchise QB anyway. You only mess up if the QB is a dud. The Eagles Bears and Chiefs all made smart moves in general to go for the QBs they like, and paid appropriate prices. The Jets now, ummmm

Good day for the Bears. So with the Jets move, that may be 3 quarterbacks in the top 3. It is hard to foster the Giants standing pat for just Barkley. Teams will be offering everything they have to move up. The Bears could easily get a choice of a corner, Edmunds, maybe even Nelson. And the Broncos should still take a QB if one is there they like. All your chips on Case Keenum is really iffy.

I'm a dream scenario, Chubb falls to 8.

Colts would take him at 6 and I think he very well could be there.

Pace inherited the worst roster in the NFL outside the Browns. He’s done a fine job. Hasn’t hit on every FA or pick but he has more than not.
His biggest mistake was keeping fox too long. Fox sucked. Bad.
If he got Money Mitch and Nagy right... which I think he did... we are going to be good for a long time.

There is no in pace we trust. He isn't Theo.
In the end, the biggest thing that matters (especially going into his 4th season) is winning. If he's done good work, it needs to start showing on the field.
Any excuses he may have left end in September.

Nah, winning isn't the only thing. Emery won more than him and Emery was a terrible GM.
Drafting is number 1. If you can draft talent and then develop that talent, you're good to go. This team absolutely needs to look much better than the previous years and if it doesn't, I'll hop off of the bandwagon because there will be nothing there but man, there's been progress with Pace thus far.

I didn't say winning was the only thing. At this point though it's the biggest thing. And if he's drafted well, and has them in place to be developed, then winning sould start happening. Even if it's a .500 record. That shows improvement.
They win 5 or 6 games next season, that's a failure. 4 drafts and 4 free agencies and a 2nd coach need to show better results.

1. We've been the most injured team the past two seasons
2. Pace is building something way more than just players. He's building a culture... that was delayed due to Fox. He has his guy now and will make it happen.
3. Completely agree that if the Bears don't sniff the playoffs this season then he's going to be on the hot seat. I just know he won't be. I see the Bears competing for the division this season. Cousins doesnt' worry me. Pack have taken a big step back and only a killer draft will save them. Lions are the Lions.

Here's the thing. Pace has gone after guys that have had injury concerns. You can't sign guys that have issues with injuries and then wonder why the Bears are always playing through injury. Now I'm a fan of Alan Robinson, but if he tears his acl again, it can't be chalked up to bad luck. The risk factor is there.
Then it comes back to drafting. His first draft was a flop. There really isn't debating that right now. Next two drafts look solid though and hopefully this year's draft looks like his last two. So because of his first draft being a flop, it's hurt the Bears depth when these injuries happen.
Simply blaming Fox is a cop out as well. Outside of just "rumors" we really don't know that Pace didn't have a hand in hiring Fox. He put him in place as the HC, so short comings of Fox also fall onto Pace.
In the end, we all want the best product on the field. We just need to start seeing this team start competing for a playoff spot and not be the laughing stock in our division. Then no doubt everyone will have more faith in Ryan Pace.

I think Fox had the ear of the team. Culture has been fine. Talented bodies on the field, not as fine.

Re: 2018 Draft thread
I recognize that this contour intuitive, but the Bears should invest only on the offensive side of the ball for this upcoming draft. If Barkley(RB) and Nelson(OG) are off the board the team should move back to the late teens and select the Best Offensive Tackle.
Ideally I'd like to see the Bears selection
- 2 to 3 offensive linemen
- Another running back
- long-term backup QB
- 2 Wide receivers (1 big wr 6'5/ 1 speedster 6'0 rawness)
- Another receiving TE

Re: 2018 Draft thread
This is the way I see things shaping up. TBH when it comes to the way Pace operates he could very easily pick none of the popular names.
1. Cleveland Browns
Record: 0-16 (.520)
Top needs: QB, CB, OT, S
Projected pick: QB
2. New York Giants
Record: 3-13 (.531)
Top needs: QB, OL, RB, DL
Projected pick: QB
3. New York Jets (via Colts)
Record: 5-11 (.520)
Top needs: QB, EDGE, OG, OT
Projected pick: QB
4. Cleveland Browns (via Texans)
Texans record: 4-12 (.516)
Browns top needs: QB, CB, OT, S
Projected pick: OG i.e. Nelson or RB Sequon Barkley (Best talent pick)
5. Denver Broncos
Record: 5-11 (.492)
Top needs: CB, EDGE, OL, TE
Projected pick: QB, Keenum is a bridge
6. Indianapolis Colts (via Jets)
Record: 4-12 (.480)
Top needs: EDGE, LB, OL, WR
Projected pick: EDGE (Chubb), OG (Nelson) or trade down for LB (Edmunds)
7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Record: 5-11 (.555)
Top needs: DE, CB, RB, S
Projected pick: EDGE (Chubb), S (Fitzpatrick) or CB (Ward)
8. Chicago Bears
Record: 5-11 (.559)
Top needs: CB, OL, EDGE, DL
Projected pick: EDGE (Chubb or Davenport), DB (Fitzpatrick/James), OG (Nelson), LB (Edmunds), CB (Ward) Honestly I can see them taking anyone of these or see them training down based on value of the pick. Top choice would be Chubb, wouldn’t be surprised of Pace traded up a couple spot to get him.
9. San Francisco 49ers
Record: 6-10 (.512)
Top needs: EDGE, OG, CB, WR
Projected pick: EDGE (Chubb or Davenport), OG (Nelson), CB (Ward)
I think Lynch trades up to get Chubb or Nelson
10. Oakland Raiders
Record: 6-10 (.512)
Top needs: LB, CB, S, OT
Projected pick: CB (Ward), LB (Edmunds), DB (James), or trade down of those are off the board.
If Barkley drops past CLE I predict the colts would take him

Re: 2018 Draft thread
If we don't get lucky with Chubb, I'm really hoping for Tremaine Edmunds.
Then Nelson or Ward. In that order.
I'm salivating thinking of a Edmunds and Floyd duo.

With that trade the Giants just made sending JPP to the Bucs its likely that the Giants take Chubb at #2.

Re: 2018 Draft thread
I had a feeling a while ago that Adren Key might drop to the second and draft analysts are starting to say he'll drop.
If we can do Edmunds and key back to back I might have a stroke.
