Reserves: Iso Joe vs. G-Money

Post#1 » by TMU » Mon Mar 12, 2018 12:11 am

No clear winner. But I'm getting the impression that Green won't get any playing time as long as JJ remains healthy, and this worries me a little because father time has clearly caught up with JJ. Green not playing means losing potential quick buckets when the Rockets are struggling to produce off the bench. At the same time, Green can't be trusted on defensive, and I think this is another reason why MDA favors JJ.

I personally think that Green has been a better FIT to our needs, but I see also see the value of JJ and would like to see both of them play, with preference to Green over JJ.

Thoughts on JJ and Green so far? Who do you like more? And how should this play out?

I pretty much agree with most of what you wrote except I don't have a preference because, as you stated, I can see the benefits and flaws of both.

I love G. Green's story and want him to be able to play a role in this championship run, but I have no problem with D'Antoni giving more crucial minutes to Joe because I believe that has potential to pay greater dividends down the line.

I know a number of Rockets fans have been whining about the rotation between those two but for me, the only time I've really been disappointed with JJ so far was in the Toronto game when Iso Joe really looked like So Slow Joe.

I personally favor Green simply because he has perhaps a slightly lower average, but a MUCH higher ceiling at this point, and frankly, to cite the key word of 2016, Green brings higher VARIABILITY.

I prefer someone athletic and energetic who goes 2/7 from 3 than someone who's slow and goes 0/2 from 3.

I don't think there's all that big a difference. Gerald is continuing to shoot over his head from three (I doubt he just became an excellent shooter while taking worse shots) and Joe Johnson is shooting more poorly than you would expect. Once that evens out its vet savvy vs athleticism, so just go with whatever the team need.

I prefer Iso Joe. Slower. Yes. But I trust him with the ball. He is still faster than most PF. Let's face it both him and Green will probably not see much playing time when Anderson is back.

im not so sure about that. if anderson doesn't show up, he might ride the bench quite a bit.

Gerald should get the nod, and Joe should be used for specific matchups/stints in the game.

I want to see the Joe & G show tonight while the starters get some rest!

EDIT - make that the "Joe, G & Joe Chee Show"

The fit is so amazing that we can call it anything and still make it sound so beautiful.

There should be a poll. And G-Money all day.

Not enough poll options.

As I said before, I like G. Green and there are clearly nights when he is the better choice.
But I still firmly believe So Slo Joe...err, I mean Iso Joe has value beyond the immediate and will pay dividends in the post season so getting him in shape and familiar with the team is important too.

I don't see it as an either/or proposition.
