FFBlitzace wrote:"Assistant coach on a top team" has always been one of the lazier categories of coaching candidates. And how often does it work? Almost never. I hope we don't just grab a Toronto assistant for that reason, in addition to Weltman's ties there. Chad Forcier is an assistant on a garbage team and I think he's the more intriguing coaching candidate.

Have you done any research on stack as a coach?
Like i said earlier, the more i looked him up as the coach of the toronto 905, the more intrigued i got. Seems like the perfect coach for a young team. He seems like a players coach thats actually respected but also a guy who holds his players accountable and stresses the fundamentals.

I personally will be disappointed if we DONT hire him at this point

Go ahead and fire him. He's an okay to average coach, and he never got a fair shake with a lackluster roster. But it's a red herring for the real problem in Orlando.

Part of me thinks we need a disciplinarian-type coach to change our culture, but then I remember how Skiles was a flop here.

he coaches the exact opposite of how he played. Ball movement and defense heavy emphasis. Last year I enjoyed watching raptors 905 more than the raptors lol.

with weltman there makes complete sense. Stackhouse holds players accountable. Thought he was gonna wait for UNC job but this makes sense too

What do you think about Nick Nurse as a candidate for us? I've heard he's had a lot to do with the Raptors revamping their offense this year. Casey speaks glowingly about him. I think we will give him a serious look.

I hope a roster overhaul is next after he goes.

I'm not a fan of either of his schemes or rotations, I really hate the offense its to predictable we just keep handing off the ball and pass on the perimeter until 5 seconds left then a shot there's no off ball movement no using players to their strength just let them sit at the 3 and watch. Biz needs to only get the ball on lobs, he has bad hands bobbles everything and needs to gather himself before jumping which allows the defense to get back in position.

I hate the switching on defense it's fine if its JI and AG or Birch but teams run a 1-5 pick and roll and DJ or Mack are stuck on the big and our centers are to slow to keep up with point guards so the wings have to help and it leaves open a corner 3, again not playing to our strengths.

Change was the goal when the Raptors hired Nick Nurse, an offensive guru from the (then) D-League, in the summer of 2013. Nurse came in for an interview, and on an office whiteboard drew the offense he envisioned: different starting points, reads, passes, options. "The framework of what we are doing now," Nurse says, "was up on that board."

Dwane Casey, the team's head coach, liked Nurse's ideas. For various reasons, they never made it onto the court for long. Perhaps no one felt enough urgency until Cleveland swept them and Ujiri spoke out.

"We were working so hard," says Jakob Poeltl, Toronto's precocious backup center, "for not very good shots."

Nurse started with the young guys -- Poeltl, Pascal Siakam, Norman Powell, OG Anunoby, Delon Wright, Fred VanVleet -- at informal workouts in Los Angeles, and then in Las Vegas for summer league. As James Herbert of CBS Sports detailed, they played pickup with new rules: Corner 3s earned four points, and any shot between the paint and the 3-point arc counted as minus-1. Nurse strongly encouraged anyone who grabbed an offensive rebound to dunk or kick the ball out to a 3-point shooter, though he did not mandate it as he had during his time in Houston's D-League lab. (Back then, he banned midrange shots in practice.)

Players passed up good shots for great ones. They stretched their playmaking skills, and that was the point: When opponents keyed on DeRozan and Lowry, these guys -- these unknown kiddos -- would have to do something. So would Ibaka and Valanciunas, behemoth screen-setters who froze outside the paint. Touching it more might invigorate other parts of their games, and inspire more focused effort on defense.

Selling DeRozan and Lowry might prove harder. "Go to any superstar and say, 'We're changing our offense, and we're taking some of your minutes away,'" Casey says. "So many would look at you sideways and tell you to take a leap."

DeRozan was diligent, but it wasn't easy at first. Lowry verbalized his frustration early in the season. "They were a little resistant at times, to be honest," Nurse says. "Even still, Kyle has these moments when he's kicking out passes, and guys are missing, and he's getting pissed."

But they saw it working, and surrendered some control. DeRozan got better at the random, improvisational bobs and weaves the offense requires. The results are inarguable: Toronto ranks third in points per possession, jacking almost nine more 3s per game than last season. They're only a so-so shooting team -- it is their most worrisome weakness -- but trading 2s for 3s increases their margin for error.

I really like the idea of hiring Nurse. We need a fresh offensive-minded head coach that knows how to handle young guys. He is a serious number 1 candidate for me. Alot of good stuff in that article.

nik nurse is Fanastic too. he's the reason why raptors went from 30th to assists to 7th this year

3rd highest offense rating in nba

Weltman was with raptors for last 4 years. Ninmnurse is a offense mastermind. Either him stack or nurse would be great coaches.

I sat behind the Magic bench last night.

Vogel was cursing out Vuc & Mario and others. Vuc got into it with Corliss also. None of the team gave any level of a **** about the arguing or about the losing.

Alex Martins has got to go so that someone can come in and actually implement a competent GM.

Firing Vogel isn't going to do anything because our players suck. Other than Jonathan Isaac, they can all **** right off.

If this franchise re-ups Aaron Gordon for a max or close to max deal, they deserve to fold. They will officially be the **** team in all of sports, if they do that dumb ****.

I guess not comparitvely speaking, but that’s not really saying much. I’d also argue he had the best roster of any year since the Dwight trade.

When a President of Basketball Operations or General Manager gets hired, they usually want to bring in their own coach.

The Magic told candidates they wanted whoever came in to stick with Frank Vogel for this coming season.

I like Frank Vogel but given the circumstances, I feel it would be best for both sides to part ways.

The Magic are going to be rebuilding at least for another 1-2 years and the culture desperately needs to change here while Vogel might be better off in another situation.

This will allow Weltman to bring in his own guy and begin an offseason where some trades of veteran players appear likely.

While I can't blame Vogel for this dumpster fire roster he has made some really stupid decisions. Even with the injured roster, his rotations are atrocious, doesn't hold the "veterans" players accountable, and I think some players don't respect him.

While I understand if Weltman brings in Stackhouse, I want to see Forcier get a shot. He seems like he would be a great coach and has a fire that will discipline players when need to. I say give Forcier a run but would not be upset with Stackhouse.

Frank Vogels resume is the result of Paul George, young Roy Hibbert and David West. He isnt an elite coach by the senses, but really a mediocre one at best. I would like to give him one more year to see what he can do with a healthy roster, a complete summer of Isaac working on his body and game, and our 2018 pick along with getting rid of Vuc, Mario, and the rest of the losing players.

I like how Brett Brown has handled "The Process." It is great seeing him now coach a winning team (that is that management stuck with him). Orlando will probably follow a similar model in selecting their next coach. Jerry Stackhouse is young enough to take the growing pains and appears competent enough to develop a winning team. I contrast Jacque Vaughn, who meant well, but was not capable of growing in to a winner.
